Based on Yu Okuno's narrative, the anime follows the story of a failed adventure, Rentt, who dies in a dungeon and wakes up as the weakest monster known as a Skeleton.

As he combats against other types of monsters, Rentt realizes he's gaining experience for the higher stages of "Undead Evolution." Thus, Rentt aspires to become a Vampire, the highest form of an Undead.
