Tohai Mahjong is set to premiere in October 2024, according to the anime's official website and X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Along with this information, the official staff has unveiled the main cast for the series. It was earlier announced that East Fish Studio is in charge of the anime adaptation.

Tohai Mahjong anime serves as an adaptation of the eponymous Japanese manga series, written and illustrated by Koji Shinasaka. Akita Shoten's Young Champion magazine serialized the manga from 2006 to 2011. Besides the anime adaptation, the manga has inspired a live-action movie in 2013.


Tohai Mahjong anime debuts in October 2024

As mentioned earlier, the official staff for the Tohai Mahjong anime announced on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, that the series will debut in October 2024. Aside from the anime's site and X account, issue #12 of Akita Shoten's Seinen magazine, Young Champion, has announced the same.

In addition to the release window, the staff revealed the main cast for the anime. According to the announcement, Kosuke Tanabe stars as the protagonist, Kei, a high school mahjong player, who thrives on living as a pinch player.

Kosuke-san is joined by Fairouz Ali, who performs the role of Amina, a foreign girl, who becomes the subordinate to Kei. Shunsuke Takeuchi has also joined the voice cast as Tojima, an expert mahjong player, who has garnered fame in the underworld.

Interestingly, the anime's website and X handle have shared the character designs for each cast. The designs feature the characters, showcasing their looks and outfits.

Comments from the voice actors have also arrived on the official X handle of the Tohai Mahjong anime. Kosuke-san revealed that since he previously had worked as a police officer, he could portray the role of the protagonist in an underground scene.

Fairouz Ali mentioned that she began reading the original manga when she auditioned for the role. The seiyuu revealed she found the work interesting. Likewise, Shunsuke Takeuchi is delighted to participate in a mahjong-themed anime.

Jun Hatori is at the helm of affairs for this anime at East Fish Studios, with Mariko Kunisawa supervising the scripts. Sayaka Anesaki joined the staff as the character designer, while Yuki Kishida and Yusuke Shirato are composing the series' music.

Based on Koji Shinasaka's manga series, the anime centers around Kei, a high school student, who loves to frequent the underground mahjong parlor. His exploits earn him the title of "K of Ice" in the underworld. With his tremendous strategies and stylish mahjong gameplay, Kei embarks on a thrilling ride.
