Monday, October 21, 2024, saw Netflix reveal significant information regarding their Tokyo Override animation, including its Thursday, November 21, 2024, release date. The series will air on the platform globally starting on November 21, with it being presumed that the first season will be released all at once given no specification otherwise as of this writing.

Alongside the Tokyo Override release date, Netflix also revealed the cast for the series, as well as a key visual featuring its protagonist Kai, who will be played by Fairouz Ai. All of the above information comes from the official X account for Netflix Anime (@NetflixAnime), which posted all of the news on Monday.

Netflix’s Tokyo Override stars Fairouz Ai, Mariya Ise, Yu Serizawa, and more

As mentioned above, Fairouz Ai stars in Tokyo Override as protagonist Kai. Also starring in the series are Ryota Takeuchi as Hugo, Tomoaki Maeno as Spoke, Mariya Ise as Watari, Shigeru Chiba as Yukio, Yu Serizawa as Ayumi, Hochu Ohtsuka as Kageyama, Miyu Irino as Yasumoto, and Yuko Kaida as Ieuji. This seems to be the full cast list for the first season based on currently available information.

Yuske Fukada and Veerapatra Jinanavin are directing the series at RiFF studio, which is based in Thailand. Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. are collaborating on the work, which is themed around street racing. Fukuda, Sornperes Subsermsri, and Kwunchanok Meesilpa are the producers of the series.

The series is set in a version of Tokyo 100 years in the future, which has become “AI-optimized.” The series follows orphan teenage hacker Kai, who blends in without a trace until she does a favor for her only friend. This inadvertently draws her into a gang of outcast motorcyclists who are much kinder and more benevolent than they seem.

As Kai gets more acquainted with the outcast group, she finds herself uncovering the seemingly utopian city’s dark side. Specifically, she begins discovering this by getting wrapped up in a murder investigation linked to one of Tokyo’s biggest drug syndicates. The series will follow Kai as she navigates these discoveries and what to do about them.

Tokyo Override has had minimal information released, with no trailer for the series streamed as of this article’s writing. Two first-look images were revealed when the series was initially announced in June 2024. One of these features protagonist Kai, while the other features two indistinguishable characters riding motorcycles through Tokyo’s streets.

In addition to the above series, Netflix has several other notable animated properties in production or currently releasing. The platform streams the Dandadan anime weekly, as well as the Blue Box anime. The platform also has a Sakamoto Days anime adaptation coming in January 2025.
