July’s Anime Expo 2024 event held in Los Angeles, California, at the Los Angeles Convention Center saw the Tomb Raider King anime adaptation officially announced. The news was later reconfirmed after the convention on Monday, July 8, 2024, when the original manhwa author SAN.G shared a key visual and the anime’s 2026 release information via his official X account.

It has also been confirmed since this original post on the Tomb Raider King anime by SAN.G that Korean animation studio STUDIO EEK will be handling the animation for the series.

This information, as well as some screenshots of what appears to be the original manhwa, were posted to the X platform and then reposted by SAN.G’s official X account. This in turn suggests the information to be legitimate, even if left out of the original Anime Expo 2024 announcement.

However, unfortunately, there is no additional currently available information on the Tomb Raider King anime adaptation than what’s described above as of this article’s writing. While the staff for the production has likely been decided, given the confirmation of animation studio STUDIO EEK’s production, this information is likely being saved for release alongside the first promotional video.

That being said, there’s likely not much else the production team would even have to share at the time of announcement considering their claim of a 2026 release window for the series. It suggests that production is in its very beginnings, with the cast likely not having been decided and overall animation production in its fledgling stages.

The manhwa is specifically regarded by fans online as being somewhat comparable to Solo Leveling, one of the most famous and beloved manhwa to ever be published. More specifically, fans compare the two series in their setting, power systems, and general storylines, although with some slight nuances that differentiate the pair from one another.

The Tomb Raider King anime will serve as the television anime adaptation of author and illustrator SAN.G’s original manhwa of the same name. The manhwa was digitally released by Tapas Media from February 2021 to August 2023, spanning 412 chapters in totality. The manga adaptation illustrated by Yuns of REDICE STUDIO is published by Yen Press, describing it as:

“In the year 2025, mysterious tombs appeared all over the world, each housing an ancient relic granting supernatural abilities. The lucky few who quickly obtained these relics ruled over powerful monopolies. Others came to serve them, such as Jooheon Suh, a “raider” who hid in tombs to steal relics."

It continues:

"Betrayed by his employer, Jooheon is left to die but instead finds himself transported 15 years in the past. Armed with years of tough raiding experience and knowledge of what is to come in the world of relics, does Jooheon have what it takes to become the 'Tomb Raider King?'”
