An illustration of Crono, the lead character in the famous 90’s video game Chrono Trigger for which author Akira Toriyama was a character designer, has recently been done by Toyotaro, the Dragon Ball artist. A lot of fans have celebrated it as a moment to honor Toriyama’s legendary status.
Since Toriyama died on March 1, 2024, it’s been nothing but mourning and celebration across the globe for the life of the Dragon Ball mangaka, and many fans consider Toyotaro his replacement in waiting.

Toyotaro does a Chrono Trigger illustration to honor Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama
Toyotaro recently published an illustration he made of Crono, the protagonist of the legendary Chrono Trigger video game. It is a 1995 RPG video game that was made by Square, now Square Enix, for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, most commonly known as SNES. It has been widely regarded as one of the best games of all time, featuring Akira Toriyama as the character designer.
Anyone who has played or at least seen Chrono Trigger can identify Toriyama's unique art style and now Toyotaro has released this illustration, thus showing once more that he is capable of doing justice to the legacy of this legendary mangaka, who sadly passed away on March 1 of this year.

Toriyama's passing is still felt in the anime and manga community and it makes a lot of sense when considering the mangaka's influence across the world. Regardless of preferences, there is no denying that Akira Toriyama changed the shonen genre forever and a lot of world-class authors have cited him as a massive influence on their work.
So it makes a lot of sense that Toyotaro's illustration touches people's hearts as it represents the student celebrating and honoring his teacher.
"Chrono Trigger art from DBS manga artist Toyotaro! It's still shocking that Chrono Trigger isn't available on any of the current consoles," someone commented .
"Toyotaro I love you for this," another person said.
"Is he a fan of Chrono Trigger Man we need a remake ASAP If Toyotaro did do the designs for The game then it would be in respect of toriyama Please. I want a remake for this game," someone else wrote.
There is no denying that Toriyama's passing is going to change the Dragon Ball franchise forever, but fans have also shown a lot of belief in Toyotaro's abilities. Fans can only hope for the best and celebrate someone who is arguably the most influential mangaka of all time.
