On Thursday, November 21, 2024, Disney+ announced on its official X account the production of the Twisted-Wonderland anime. According to the announcement, the series will premiere on Disney+ in October 2025 and run for three seasons. The company has unveiled a teaser visual and the main staff for the series.

The Twisted-Wonderland anime is based on the original smartphone game by Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan. Black Butler manga's author, Yana Toboso, was in charge of the game's original concept, script, and character design. The official staff released the video game in March 2020 in Japan.

Notably, the game inspired a manga adaptation by author Sumire Kowono and illustrator Wakana Hazuki. Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine serialized the manga from March 18, 2021, to October 18, 2022, for four tankobon volumes.


Twisted-Wonderland anime set to premiere in October 2025 in three seasons

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the official X account of Disney Plus JP (@DisneyPlusJP) shared a teaser visual to confirm that the Twisted-Wonderland anime will be released in October 2025 and run for three cours or seasons. According to the announcement, the series will be exclusively available on Disney+ service. However, an exact release date is yet to be disclosed.

The visual for the Twisted-Wonderland anime features the seven dorm leaders from the Night Ravens College, namely Riddle Rosehearts from Heartslabyul, Azul Ashengrotto from Octavinelle, Leona Kingscholar from Savanaclaw, Kalim Al-Asim from Scarabia, Vil Schoenheit from Pomefiore, Malleus Draconia from Diasomnia, and Idea Shroud from Ignihyde.

Information regarding the main staff has also been revealed. Takahiro Natori is listed as the chief director and the script supervisor at the joint production of Yumeta Company and Graphinica, with Shin Katagai as the series director. Hanaka Nakano and Akane Sato are in charge of the character designs.

Yoichi Kato noted for his contribution to the Space Brothers anime, has joined the staff as the main writer. Unfortunately, the official staff didn't mention any details regarding the Twisted-Wonderland anime's cast. As such, it will be revealed in the future.

Notably, the original smartphone game upon which the anime is based centers around characters inspired by villains depicted in Disney films. Disney describes the game as a Villains Academy Adventure game. Yana Toboso, the renowned author of the Black Butler manga handled the game's scripts, concept, and character designs.

The game's narrative begins when the main character gets summoned to another world via a magic mirror. In that new world, the character arrives at a prestigious magic school called the Night Ravens College. The school has seven dormitories with respective leaders. Notably, the characters for each dorm are based on different Disney films, such as The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, The Lion King, and others.
