Uglymug, Epicfighter anime by White Fox announced for production

On Monday, November 18, 2024, the official staff opened a new website and X (formerly Twitter) account to confirm the production of Uglymug, Epicfighter anime. Along with this announcement, the staff unveiled a teaser visual and revealed the details regarding the show's production studio and primary cast.

Uglymug, Epicfighter anime is based on the eponymous Japanese light novel series by Ryo Hiromatsu. The project began as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website. A manga adaptation with Osamu Kozuki's illustrations has been serialized on Squire Enix's Monthly Big Gangan since 2017. The company has published six tankobon volumes thus far.

Uglymug, Epicfighter anime gets officially confirmed with visual

According to a new website and X account opened on Monday, November 18, 2024, Uglymug, Epicfighter anime has been green-lit for production. However, no information regarding the anime's release date or window is disclosed. That said, the official staff has unveiled a visual, featuring the protagonist, Shigeru Yoshioka.

Junichi Suwabe voices Shiguru Yoshioka, a shut-in boy who one day ventures into another world and sacrifices his looks to receive extraordinary powers. Notably, Suwabe-san has previously voiced many fan-favorite characters, like Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen, Grimmjow in Bleach, and others.

The anime's website and X account have shared a comment from Junichi Suwabe, who looks forward to working on the anime. The voice actor feels that even though the series can be categorized as an Isekai anime, it has many twists and heartwarming moments.

Besides Junichi Suwabe, comments from the original novel artist, Ryo Hiromatsu, and the manga illustrator Osamu Kozuki have arrived. The former reveals their excitement over the anime adaptation. Hiromatsu-san has urged fans to look forward to the anime. Likewise, Kozuki-san mentions how enthusiastic the cast and staff members are about the series.

Information about the Uglymug, Epicfighter anime's production team has also been revealed. EGG FIRM, who has previously worked on Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II, is producing the series.

On the other hand, White Fox will be in charge of the anime's animation production. The esteemed studio has handled the production of the Re:Zero anime series. More information about the anime will be revealed in the future.

Based on Ryo Hiromatsu's light novel, Uglymug, Epicfighter anime will follow the story of Shigeru Yoshioka, an awkward shut-in boy, who finds a way to another world.

Once he enters the new world, a status screen appears, instructing him to determine his abilities. Interestingly, Shigeru sacrifices his appearance to gain extraordinary powers. Thus, Shigeru begins his second life in another world, albeit at a cost.
