On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Kadokawa revealed the Tuesday, January 7, 2025 release date for the Unnamed Memory season 2 television anime series via a new promotional video. The video also revealed and previewed the anime’s opening theme song, Unsung Ballad, performed by TRUE, and revealed the ending theme song Inclusion, performed by Arika.
Alongside this promotional video for Unnamed Memory season 2, staff for the series also began streaming a recap video for the events of the first season, which aired in Spring 2024. The second season has already been confirmed to feature returning cast and staff members from the first season, with no additional new cast members announced as of this article’s writing.
Unnamed Memory season 2 confirms Japanese and international release information
Unnamed Memory season 2 will premiere in Japan on the AT-X channel on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 11:30 pm Japanese Standard Time (JST) before airing on other networks. These other networks include Toxyo MX, MBS, and BS11.
Domestically, the anime will first stream exclusively on d Anime Store, before later going to other services. Some of these services include ABEMA, U-NEXT, Lemino, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.
It has also been confirmed that Crunchyroll will stream the series internationally as it airs weekly in Japan. While a German dub was produced for the first season, no English dub has been produced as of this article’s writing. Likewise, it seems unlikely that the second season will produce an English dub.
However, it’s possible (but unconfirmed as of this writing) that the German dub’s production will continue into the second season.
As mentioned above, season 2 features a returning cast and staff. In the former category, this notable includes starring voice actors Yoshiki Nakajima and Atsumi Tanezaki as main characters Oscar and Tinasha, respectively.
In staff, Kazuya Miura returns to direct the anime at ENGI studios, with Deko Akao once again in charge of series scripts. Chika Nomi continues to adapt the original character designs for animation, with Akita Matsuda returning to compose music.
Unnamed Memory season 2 continues the television anime adaptation of author Kuji Furumiya and illustrator Chibi’s original light novel series of the same name. The light novel is an adaptation of Furumiya’s original web novel from the Shosetsuka ni Naro website. Yen Press releases both the light novel and its manga adaptation in English, describing the story:
“Witches—the centuries-old mages that command power immense enough to bring catastrophe. Oscar, the crown prince of the powerful kingdom of Farsas, was cursed as a young boy to never sire an heir. Hoping to break the magic, he seeks out Tinasha, the strongest witch on the continent. To meet her, he climbs her tower, as she is said to grant the wish of any who successfully do so. Yet, when he arrives at the top…he requests that Tinasha become his bride!”
Unnamed Memory season 2 will premiere on January 7 at 11:30 pm JST on Tokyo MX.
