Thursday, June 27, 2024 saw Wind Breaker season 2 officially announced as in production following the airing of the first season’s thirteenth and final episode on the same day. The news came via a new promotional video for the series, which also confirmed a general 2025 calendar year release window for the sequel to the smash-hit Spring 2024 anime series.
The roughly 15-second promotional video is, however, relatively uninformative beyond that, primarily consisting of season 1 scenes and dialogue for the most part. This then transitions into a very simple logo for the second season before confirming the aforementioned release window. No further information regarding Wind Breaker season 2 has been made available as of this article’s writing.
Wind Breaker season 2 officially confirmed in new PV for series
In addition to the announcement itself, Crunchyroll also revealed that it will stream Wind Breaker season 2 in over 200 countries and territories worldwide. Crunchyroll has been streaming the first season of the anime as it aired weekly in Japan, and has also been producing and streaming an English dub for the series, which it will presumably do for Wind Breaker season 2 also.
The first season premiered on 28 MBS/TBS stations on April 4, 2024 in the Super Animeism TURBO programming block. Prior to this, the series had an early screening event at Shinjuku Wald 9 on March 31, 2024. Several cast members were in attendance at this early screening event.
The first season was directed by Toshifumi Aaki at CloverWorks, with Hiroshi Seko handling series composition. Taishi Kawakami designed the characters, while Ryo Takahashi composed the music for the series. The anime stars Yuma Uchida as protagonist Haruka Sakura, Koki Uchiyama as Kyotaro Sugishita, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hayato Suo, Yuichi Nakamura as Hajime Umemiya, Ryota Suzuki as Toma Hiragi, and Shoya Chiba as Akihiko Nirei.
Wind Breaker season 2 will serve as the continuation of the television anime adaptation of author and illustrator Satoru Nii’s original manga series of the same name. The manga began serialization in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket publication in January 2021, where it is still ongoing and regularly serialized today.
Kodnasha USA Publishing licensed the manga and has been releasing it digitally in English since Spring 2022, and has recently begun publishing the series in print also, describing it:
“An adrenaline-filled manga set in a high school for delinquents who are now heroes protecting their town. A fierce, new student arrives at the school determined to fight his way to the top and become the strongest of them all. This edgy, action-packed manga is guaranteed to excite fans of Tokyo Revengers and other stories about high school delinquents.
Haruka Sakura wants nothing to do with weaklings—he's only interested in the strongest of the strong. He's just started at Furin High School, a school of degenerates known only for their brawling strength—strength they use to protect their town from anyone who wishes it ill. But Haruka's not interested in being a hero or being part of any sort of team—he just wants to fight his way to the top!”
