On Thursday, January 9, 2025, Kodansha announced that CLAMP's xxxHOLiC: Rei manga is set to return from its hiatus. The manga will release its first chapter in over eight years on Monday, April 21, 2025, in this year's Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine issue 21.

The original xxxHolic manga by CLAMP was serialized from February 2003 to February 2011 and was collected into 19 compiled manga volumes. Its sequel manga series called xxxHolic Rei later began serialization in March 2013. Unfortunately, this manga was subjected to several hiatuses and only managed to be collected into four compiled manga volumes.

CLAMP to resume xxxHOLiC: Rei manga after eight years

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, Kodansha announced that manga artist group CLAMP's xxxHOLiC: Rei manga will resume its serialization on Monday, April 21, 2025, in this year's Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine issue 21.

xxxHOLiC: Rei released its most recent chapter in March 2017. With that, the manga's April 2025 return will effectively mean that the series will return to serialization after an eight-year-long hiatus.

xxxHOLiC: Rei manga was originally supposed to begin serialization in February 2013 but was delayed until March 2013. After releasing its chapters for some time, the manga went on a hiatus between July 2014 and April 2015.

While the manga resumed releasing its chapters in April 2015, it wasn't as regular. The manga's chapters were published between June 2016 and March 2017. Thus, despite having begun serialization over 11 years ago, the manga could only be collected into four compiled volumes.

The manga artist group CLAMP previously announced in April 2022 that they intended to resume the series in 2023. Unfortunately, the manga's return got further delayed, seeing it make its return in Spring 2025. Fortunately, fans finally have a release date for the series' long-awaited return chapter.

What is xxxHOLiC: Rei manga about?

The original xxxHOLiC manga followed the story of Yuuko Ichihara and Kimihiro Watanuki. Yuuko was a witch who granted people's wishes in exchange for something precious, while Watanuki was a high school student plagued by ayakashi spirits.

One day, Watanuki stumbled upon a shop that granted wishes. There, he met Yuuko, who promised to help Watanuki get rid of the ayakashi spirits. However, in exchange, she wanted him to work in the shop and help her grant people's wishes.

The xxxHOLiC Rei manga continues Kimihiro Watanuki's relationship with Yuuko Ichihara. However, there is a major twist. Yuuko had passed away in the previous manga's finale. Despite that, she is shown to be alive and well in the sequel manga. Hence, xxxHOLiC: Rei manga follows Watanuki as he tries to discover even more secrets surrounding the mysterious shop.
