One thing that makes Demon Slayer stand out among a plethora of shonen titles is its world-building. The writing is such that the show doesn’t bombard viewers with new concepts, and they are introduced as and when the story progresses.

One such concept that was introduced in the story is Blood Demon Art. This is a supernatural ability that demons possess, and it is unique to each demon. One of the first instances of Blood Demon Art was seen in the Mount Natagumo arc of the anime and manga series.

Fans have reasons to believe that Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art is unique and can be considered the Sun Breathing equivalent among other Blood Demon Art techniques. Let’s understand why this is the case and how Nezuko’s technique is exceptionally unique in the series.

Demon Slayer: Understanding why Nezuko’s technique can be considered the Sun Breathing equivalent of Blood Demon Art

As stated earlier, Blood Demon Art is a supernatural ability that every demon has access to. Rui’s Blood Demon Art involved the manipulation of webs that could decapitate people. Meanwhile, Gyutaro had the ability to manipulate his blood into various forms of projectiles and weapons while it carried extremely lethal doses of poison. That being said, Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art is quite unique because it only affects the demons and doesn’t harm humans in any way.

Her Blood Demon Art has a fire element associated with it, which burns the demons and weakens them drastically. It also has the ability to subdue the Blood Demon Art technique of another demon, which could be seen during the fight against Rui. His webs were burned completely with Nezuko’s help, allowing Tanjiro to attack the Lower Moon demon with everything that he had.

Another interesting concept in anime is lineage. Whenever someone is born into a particular family or clan that specializes in a particular skill set, they tend to receive the same. In this case, Tanjiro’s ancestor learned the Sun Breathing which meant that both Tanjiro and Nezuko would have some connection to the Breath of the Sun. Tanjiro managed to master it, while Nezuko’s connection with the Breathing Technique resulted in something different owing to her demonic nature.

She managed to develop Blood Demon Art, which had flames that only affected the demons. The manner in which they decided to showcase her connection to Sun Breathing led to the development of a Blood Demon Art that burned demons.

The only thing that burned demons and caused considerable damage was the sun. This is why fans have reason to believe that her technique can be connected to the Sun Breathing, the very first Breathing Technique that was created by Yoriichi Tsukiguni and designed to kill Kibutsuji Muzan. That being said, this is a fan theory that aims to explore the connection between Nezuko, her Blood Demon Art, and the Breath of the Sun.
