A brief recap of NieR: Automata Ver1.1a episode 13
The episode kicked off with 9S and 2B deployed on yet another scouting mission, where they encountered a huge horde of Machines, whom they defeated successfully. 9S wanted to help a Resistance soldier, who was looking for her friend, a YoRHa android. After the duo discovered the corpse of the android, the Resistance soldier also arrived at the location.
The Resistance soldier, who suddenly regained her memories, revealed herself to be an E-type android, mostly tasked with executing rogue YoRHa android. Due to the overwhelming guilt, she killed herself by voluntarily falling off from the terrace of a building.
Later 2B and 9S head to scout a shrine nearby, but the former pulled the plug on the mission to ensure that 9S wouldn’t encounter his previous shell. While scouting a shopping mall, the two encountered a large Machine that was not attacking them.
However, following her codes, 2B destroyed the entity. Suddenly, a talking head sprung out of the Machine, who escaped after finding itself in a hostile situation. 2B killed 9S and revealed her new designation as 2E, sent on a mission to kill him for extracting confidential data from the Bunker.
Commander, who was witnessing this act from afar, hoped this would be the last time 9S would go through such a path, in a way suggesting that she had to kill 9S many times in the past. After calling in all YoRHa squadron, the Commander announced to prepare for the final battle against Machines on Earth.
