The genius literary figure, Osamu Dazai, stands on the edge of a "man-eating river" with his beloved, Sacchan, to commit a double suicide. However, a truck appears out of nowhere to spoil his plans. After being hit by the vehicle, Osamu Dazai wakes up in a Western-style hall.
He rejoices, thinking it's the afterlife. However, Annette, an elven mage, informs the author that he has been summoned to an Isekai world called Zauberberg as a hero to vanquish the land's darkness.
After explaining his role to Dazai, Annette turns around and notices the adventurer unconscious from eating too many sleeping pills. She quickly demonstrates detoxification magic to heal him. However, Dazai reveals that he wants to die more than anything.
Annette soon realizes that the Truck-kun may have made a mistake by bringing the man into this world. She also checks his stats and discovers that Dazai barely hangs onto life by a thread. The elven guide implores him not to venture outside.
However, Dazai's desire to die knows no bounds, and he walks out of the door to find a place of death. Annette realizes that Osamu is truly unlike any of the heroes she has guided. Outside, Dazai notices a girl trapped by a Death tree.
She implores him to save her, but the literary genius says he has no means to do that. Eventually, he gets tangled up by the Death Tree, which begins to sap both Dazai's and the girl's life forces. However, the monster self-destructs after sucking the poison out of Dazai.
The girl shows her gratitude and asks for Dazai's identity. He says his name is Osamu Dazai, but people call him "Sensei." Suddenly, Dazai realizes that his beloved, Sacchan, may have also been transported to the new world since she was also hit by the truck.
Sensei heads back to the Church with a new purpose and asks Annette whether a girl was summoned with him. However, the elven guide says she doesn't know. Meanwhile, Annette develops an infatuation for Sensei.
She decides to tag along with him and Tama, the girl Sensei saved. Osamu Dazai wants to find his beloved and then plans a double suicide. The party then begins their journey to a nearby town called Rott.

According to the preview clip shared by the Isekai anime's official staff, the episode will see Sensei, Annette, and Tama visit the lively castle town of the Kingdom of Rotto, where they will meet King Thomas.
Interestingly, the synopsis reveals that King Thomas loves to hear the stories of travelers. Thus, he welcomes Sensei and his friends.
