Demon Slayer season 4 has concluded and it was a massive success. There is no doubt that this installation of the anime series exceeded everyone’s expectations. Not only was the anime recovering from the aftermath of a mediocre season but it was also tasked with adapting the shortest and the least stimulating story arc in the series.

Despite the presence of such towering hurdles, Ufotable pulled all the stops and gave the fanbase an incredible season. With that said, there were a few problems that arose during the course of the season.

The manner in which Ufotable animated this was that it allotted almost one episode for every stage of the training. This meant every Hashira received enough screentime. However, Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira received the short end of the stick and wasn’t allowed to shine.

Demon Slayer season 4: Mitsuri’s lack of screentime robbed the series of a perfect season

Fans can recall that Tengen Uzui, the former Sound Hashira received plenty of screen time despite not playing a major role in the series. It was a great way to get the fans excited as the animators leveraged the character by banking on nostalgia that would be induced when this character made his return.

However, far too much screen time was allotted to Tengen Uzui in Demon Slayer season 4. Some of the screen time that this character received could have been allotted to Mitsuri Kanroji. She is the Love Hashira and is quite possibly on par or comparable to Gyomei Himejima when it comes to raw power. Furthermore, she was trained by Rengoku, making her an exceptionally skilled fighter.

This stage of training involved demon hunters having to stretch and improve their flexibility. The show allotted enough time for a quick montage and a short interaction involving her and Tanjiro, wherein the duo ate together. The show could have given more importance to the training stage and explored the difficulties that one deals with while training for mobility.

Furthermore, she and Obanai Iguro are the only ones who are involved in a canonical romantic relationship. Her platonic affection for Tanjiro was cause for Obanai’s jealousy and interactions involving all three would have lent themselves well as an anime-original scene. Furthermore, screen time could have been allotted to show the development of Mitsuri and Obanai’s relationship.

Instead, Tengen Uzui received more than one episode’s worth of screen time. Furthermore, the unnamed demon hunters who accompanied Tanjiro Kamado received more screentime than Mitsuri did. This is why fans were quite unhappy with the way Mitsuri was treated in the series.

She is an exceptionally strong Hashira and Ufotable could have created a few anime-original fight scenes involving her as well. The Swordsmith Village arc gave fans a glimpse of her combat abilities.

That alone gave the fanbase enough reason to be excited. This is why fans have reason to believe that Demon Slayer season 4 fell short on this front, and giving Mitsuri ample screentime would have resulted in a perfect run that Ufotable hoped to achieve.
