"Now you really forcing it"— Boruto fans put in check by Dragon Ball community after latest Gohan claim

Boruto fans have been praising the direction their protagonist has taken with the Two Blue Vortex timeskip. However, recently on X, they decided to pit him against Dragon Ball's Gohan, leading to unfortunate results for the former. Both characters are the sons of the original protagonists of their respective series, which has led to many comparisons— some warranted, some not so much.

It's easy to see then why people would be so eager to compare them, although the Dragon Ball fandom was quick to dismantle the idea that Boruto was a better-written character than Gohan and "everything they wanted him to be". This not only had a strong rebuttal but also showed the different misconceptions that people have about these two characters and what constitutes solid development for them.

Dragon Ball fans strongly reject the notion that Boruto is a better-written character than Gohan

A person on X said that Boruto is a better-written character than Gohan from Dragon Ball, which spawned strong reactions from both fandoms. This was expected because author Masashi Kishimoto's sequel is not fully embraced by a lot of people in the anime and manga community, and Gohan has one of the strongest and most passionate fanbases in the medium.

The comparisons are easy to understand because they are both the sons of prominent battle shonen protagonists, although is fair to say that they have taken different directions. It has also been stated by Gohan fans that they consider his peaks as a character far superior to the ones Naruto's son had, with his Super Saiyan 2 transformation against Cell being regarded as one of the greatest moments in the franchise and anime as a whole.

On the other hand, there is also the fact that Gohan fans seem to be very happy with his characterization throughout the years. While the conclusion of his battle with Super Buu in the latter's arc has been viewed as disappointing and his beginnings in Super continued in that negative route, most of his fans are content with the balance he has acquired between being a family man and a fighter.

The comparisons also seem to show a degree of misunderstanding regarding Gohan's characterization and what most fans want him to be. A major issue is that Gohan, while smart and reasonable, was never extremely serious or dark, which is something that a lot of people don't seem to understand when it comes to his personality.

There is also the fact that fans have come to terms with the idea that he is a pacifist and someone who is naturally inclined to fight like Goku and Vegeta. That is something that has defined his character since the end of the Cell arc and recent storylines in the Dragon Ball Super manga have established that he has found a degree of balance of sorts, which is an element most fans have praised.

"Any Dragon Ball character bodies the entire Naruto universe and it’s not even close," someone said.
"Mmm, nah. I want I like Gohan the way he is, just wanted him to train more," another person said.
"Nah, Gohan is pretty good as he is, he never liked to fight and now he dedicates himself to his childhood dream, research," someone else said.

While people probably would have wanted Gohan to have a more prominent role in the series, especially compared to the likes of Goku, Vegeta, and even Piccolo to some degree, it also makes sense that he didn't reach the level of his father. It is a different case for Boruto, who has had his own series and is the main character now instead of his father, Naruto.

"Nah we're good I dont want Gohan to become Vegeta Jr," someone said.
"Gohan >>> ur whole cast," another person said.

Of course, when it comes to personal preferences, everything is subjective. However, the Dragon Ball fandom was clear that they didn't agree with this take.
