One Piece chapter 1117: Zoro and Nusjuro clash with Conqueror's Haki as the Straw Hats' escape begins

One Piece chapter 1117 finally saw the Straw Hat Pirates officially begin their escape from Egghead Island, with one ship setting sail and another all but doing so. Officially released earlier this weekend, the issue seemingly marks the start of the final chapters of the Egghead arc with Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast over and the escape having begun.

However, there was still plenty of action for fans inside of One Piece chapter 1117 despite the Straw Hats formally beginning their escape. The major highlight of this is a quick clash between Gorosei member Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro and Roronoa Zoro, in which both use Conqueror’s Haki. The clash also seemingly confirms a long-standing fan theory regarding Nusjuro, which has the fanbase abuzz with excitement.

One Piece chapter 1117 began with the continuation of Yamato’s Wano cover story, in which he was seen visiting Hyogoro and Nekomamushi in the Flower Capital. Beginning its story content, the issue honed in on Hachinosu Island, where the pirates there were trying to figure out how they can reach these sunken cities and plunder them.

Focus then shifted to Paradise in the Grand Line, where Mont Blanc Cricket and the Saruyama Alliance were seen excitedly diving for treasure after hearing Dr. Vegapunk’s words. Focus then shifted to the GS Marine General Hospital, where the SWORD members were seen recovering from their raid on Hachinosu Island.

One Piece chapter 1117 saw some deeply concerned with Dr. Vegapunk’s words, while others were seemingly motivated by the fact that they’ll need to step up in the near future. Focus was also given to X Drake, who was shown alive and recovering from Wano in a private room while listening to Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast.

Focus then shifted to an unknown area in the New World seas, where Smoker was seen speaking with Tashigi while riding his Billower Bike. Dr. Vegapunk’s message then continued as focus shifted back to Egghead Island, where Nami’s group noticed that the Frontier Dome Defense System barrier was lifting.

One Piece chapter 1117 saw them prepare to drop into the seas below, while Zoro and Jinbe confirmed they were close by. However, it was revealed they were chasing after Nusjuro himself, who was also headed for the Thousand Sunny. As he prepared to slash the ship, Jinbe used a new move to launch Zoro at him.

Zoro then used his Two-Sword Style Sukhavati’s Bliss: Rashomon move to block Nusjuro’s attack on the ship. The two clashed with their Conqueror’s Haki immediately, and Zoro seemingly believed Nusjuro’s blade to be a Kitetsu. The two then sent each other flying, with Jinbe catching Zoro as he told Nami and co to launch the ship and that they’ll jump on later.

One Piece chapter 1117 then shifted focus to Jewelry Bonney’s group, where they were being attacked by the Marines and couldn’t hold out much longer. Sanji called out to Luffy since their communications were being blocked, with Luffy shouting at them to get ready to set sail as they approached the area.

Dorry and Brogy also gave a similar order to Oimo and Kashii, who began prepping the ship alongside other Giants. Those who weren’t prepping the ship instead began attacking the Marine battleships nearby. However, Vice Admirals Bluegrass and Doll then appeared, with the former blowing a hole in the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship and the latter knocking out Kashii with one attack.

One Piece chapter 1117 then focused on Luffy, Dorry, and Brogy specifically, who realized that Gorosei member Saint Topman Warcury was no longer chasing them. They questioned where he went, as focus shifted to the Iron Giant who was now surrounded by Warcury and fellow Gorosei members Saint Shepherd Ju Peter, Saint Marcus Mars, and Saint Jaygarcia Saturn. All were in transformed yokai states.

As this was shown, Dr. Vegapunk was seen saying he had one last message to share. Mars and the Gorosei, meanwhile, recognized the robot as the one that attacked Mariejois 200 years ago. Dr. Vegapunk revealed his message was for those with the letter “D.” in their name. Panels of Monkey D. Dragon, Sabo (who said Ace and Luffy’s names), Koby (who said Luffy’s name), Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teech), and Bepo (who said Law’s name) all then appeared briefly.

One Piece chapter 1117 showed Warcury charging at the Iron Giant while Dr. Vegapunk said this. Dr. Vegapunk then began saying that “among you there is,” but he was cut off as he began saying the next word. This cutoff occurred due to Warcury landing a massive hit on the Iron Giant, sending it flying high into the sky before it crashed back down onto the ground.

Reactions from those around the world were seen, with the most notable being that of Nefertari D. Vivi, Big News Morgans, and Wapol. As an eerie dial tone rang out across Egghead and the world, the issue ended with Vegapunk York dropping to her knees in relief that the broadcast was finally over.

While not quite as action packed as some fans may have hoped, One Piece chapter 1117 serves as an exciting and thrilling start to the final chapters of the Egghead arc. While the timing of Dr. Vegapunk’s message being cut off is unfortunate, it’s something which fans have been expecting since the message first began several issues ago.

The chapter also does a great job of teasing the Gorosei’s origins via their recognizing the Iron Giant as the same one who attacked Mariejois 200 years ago. While this could theoretically be common knowledge since even Dr. Vegapunk knew about it, the Gorosei may have recognized it so quickly due to being there when it attacked Mariejois.
