One Piece chapter 1118 excitingly saw the Straw Hats officially begin to depart from Egghead Island, with Luffy and others on the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship being the first to formally depart. Officially released earlier this weekend, the issue also focused on much more beyond the Straw Hat’s starting escape plan, setting up a major fight in the coming issue.

One Piece chapter 1118 also gave fans a slight tease as to what the final leg of Dr. Vegapunk’s message was, seeing the Transmission Transponder Snail briefly resume its broadcast. While this didn’t lead to any significant information, it has given fans plenty to ponder as they wait for chapter 1119’s official release.

One Piece chapter 1118 first begins with its cover story, continuing a focus on Yamato’s journey around Wano. On the cover, he’s seen eating a bento box while departing the Flower Capital as many people send him off in the background. Beginning its story content, the issue first focuses on the Iron Giant sinking into the sea after Gorosei member Saint Topman Warcury’s attack.

It takes out a few Marine ships as it hits the water, while the Transmission Transponder Snail sees a part of Dr. Vegapunk’s message continue to play, saying “and their name was” before cutting out again. The Iron Giant is then seen wondering where Joy Boy went, believing he sensed his presence here and wanting their paths to cross before accepting he was wrong.

One Piece chapter 1118 then sees reactions from around the world to Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast ending, with Alabasta being focused on first. Khoza is seen standing in the crowd listening while other civilians argue about whether Luffy or the World Government killed Dr. Vegapunk. In Dressrosa, Leo and Rebecca are seen arguing about the same.

Focus then returns to Egghead Island, where the Gorosei ask Vegapunk York how many of the other Satellites are left. She says based on those interfacing with Punk Records, only Vegapunk Atlas and Vegapunk Lilith are still alive. She also gives the Gorosei their locations, prompting them to recognize that Punk Records will continue to function and grow even after the Stella’s (Dr. Vegapunk’s) physical death.

One Piece chapter 1118 sees them view this as a benefit through York, but as a major loose end if Atlas and Lilith survive. Meanwhile, on the northeast coast, Luffy, Dorry, and Brogy are seen jumping off the island and making it onto the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship. Luffy briefly admires the size of the ship before focus shifts to the Marines, where it’s revealed Vice Admirals Doll and Bluegrass have been transformed into children by Jewelry Bonney’s Devil Fruit powers.

Bonney teases them over this while Luffy greets Oimo and Kashii, as Sanji tells Nami they set off. Nami says they can launch, but will need the other group’s help to land safely which Sanji says they’ll ensure. It’s then revealed that Gorosei member Saint Marcus Mars is pursuing Luffy’s group, while Luffy himself is in the ship’s kitchen eating a massive meal.

One Piece chapter 1118 sees Mars launch a beam attack from his mouth which three Giants mostly block with their shields. However, part of the ship catches fire, threatening to burn the sails. Bonney and co scramble to help however they can, while Dorry and Brogy lament the fact that Mars can fly and pursue them. Mars says that they won’t be permitted to escape, when suddenly the Drums of Liberation are heard as the ship and the seas start shaking.

Luffy can be heard saying his stomach is full now while Mars is shocked at this development. Luffy then reappears topside and greets Bonney, who calls him Nika which prompts Luffy to say she has no idea who she’s talking about. Dorry and Brogy are seen dancing to the Drums of Liberation, while Luffy encourages Bonney to help him fight.

One Piece chapter 1118 sees Bonney say she can’t keep up with him in Gear 5, but Luffy encourages her and says she can do it. She then remembers Luffy saying he enters Gear 5 when he’s “totally free,” which seemingly inspires her to use her powers to create a Distorted Future where she’s also totally free.

This causes her to transform into her own version of Nika, matching Luffy’s Gear 5 design in every way possible. She’s seen doing a superhero-like pose as Luffy does on the volume 106 cover, while Luffy himself is laughing in the same way when Gear 5 was first officially introduced. Bartholomew Kuma is seen watching this and seemingly remembering his promise to Ginny to raise Bonney well.

One Piece chapter 1118 sees the Giants recognize both as Sun God Nika, while the Marines view the pair as “albino Giants.” Mars is seemingly bothered by this development, staring at the pair silently while Luffy and Bonney prepare to fight. Focus then shifts to Warcury and fellow Gorosei member Saint Shepherd Ju Peter, who hear the Drums of Liberation and begin hurrying. The issue ends with the Iron Giant sensing Joy Boy again and seemingly stirring back to life underwater.

One Piece chapter 1118: In summation

Overall, One Piece chapter 1118 is an incredibly exciting installment which finally sees the payoff of Bonney’s development throughout the Egghead arc arrive. It also sets up an incredible fight to close out the arc on, with Bonney likely being able to match Luffy’s speed and abilities while in her Nika-ish Future form.

The issue also does a great job of keeping fans hanging onto the Iron Giant’s fate, both by teasing its revival and the potential continuation of Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast. While the latter is admittedly more unlikely, it seems almost certain that Luffy and the Iron Giant will cross paths before the arc’s end given this latest setup for such a development.
