One Piece chapter 1119 was expected to continue to focus on protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and Jewelry Bonney, especially given the latter’s exciting transformation from the prior issue. Officially released earlier this weekend, the installment did primarily focus on the pair and the situation they’re in.
However, One Piece chapter 1119 also gave focus to other areas of both the Egghead arc and the series’ world, with one global focus being particularly comical to longtime readers. However, fans can rest assured that there was plenty of action to be had in the issue, including what appears to be the first time in the series’ history that a Gorosei has been injured on-screen.

One Piece chapter 1119: Freedom
One Piece chapter 1119, titled 'Emeth,' begins with a focus on Yamato’s cover story, chronicling his pilgrimage across Wano. He’s seen having rocks thrown at him by some kids in Kibi who despise Kaido, with this noticeably happening in a region where Kaido’s factories still stand. Beginning the issue’s story content, Kaku is seen yelling at Stussy to leave after she freed him from his bubble prison.
He adds that she knew this’d be his response, and that they’re not friends even if he did respect how ruthless she was as an associate. He adds that nothing will sway Lucci when he comes back, yelling over her tearful words and telling her to leave as she tries to speak. However, as she walks away, a focus on Kaku makes it clear that he’s holding back tears of his own.
One Piece chapter 1119 then shifts focus to Luffy and Bonney, who are laughing while the Giants and Marines stare at them in awe. Gorosei member Saint Marcus Mars comments on how Bonney made a facsimile of Sun God Nika with her Age-Age Fruit powers before launching an attack at Luffy. As Luffy eats the attack, he explains to Bonney and the others that they can’t injure the Gorosei, and likewise need to launch Luffy into him to send him far away.
Franky, Bonney, and Sanji agree to attack Luffy with their all to do this while Dorry and Brogy handle the fire spreading across the ship from Mars’ attacks. Luffy then grabs Mars’ wings and tells them to hurry up, prompting each to use their strongest attack with Sanji and Bonney notably using Armament Haki here (the first time on-screen for Bonney).
One Piece chapter 1119 sees the trio sink their attacks into Luffy, who complains that it hurts because Bonney and Sanji used Armament Haki. Eventually, Luffy is sent flying into Mars, sending him flying in turn with a move he calls Booming Dawn Balloon. Mars is seen flying so far that he becomes a Team Rocket-like twinkle in the sky, as the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship prepares to set sail.
Luffy first asks about Nami’s group, prompting Vegapunk Atlas to go check on them since they’re running late. However, Atlas seemingly has an ulterior motive, as she contacts Lilith to confirm they’re being tracked by York and begin saying something they must do likewise, which is cut off.
One Piece chapter 1119: The time has come
One Piece chapter 1119 then shifts focus to the Ancient Robot underwater, as well as the Transmission Transponder Snail inside which resumes Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast. The scientist is quoted as saying:
“nothing… of the sorts, that’s why… that ceaselessly inherited aspect… and to those that have suffered for this… I can only pray my voice reaches you.”
As this happens, Vegapunk York tells the Gorosei that they have to fully destroy the Snail to end it for good.
Vegapunk’s words are also interspersed with several reactions from the Big Mom Pirates, Vivi D. Nefertari, Big News Morgans, and Gaimon and Sarfunkel. However, hilariously, the lattermost pair don’t have a Transponder Snail and are likewise shown happily going about their day since they can’t hear Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast.
One Piece chapter 1119 then shifts the focus back to Luffy and co, where what appears to be rain is crashing down on them. However, it’s actually Gorosei member Saint Shepherd Ju Peter spitting out the Cipher Pol agents and Seraphim he sucked up onto the nearby Marine ships. Ju Peter then turns his attention to Luffy and co, trying to suck up their ship and successfully pulling them back.
This prompts Luffy to punch Ju Peter in the mouth to stop this, but it allows Gorosei member Saint Topman Warcury to run right past Luffy and dive at the ship. Luffy warns the others that his skin is tough and they can’t attack him as Warcury is about to make contact with and destroy the ship. It’s also briefly shown that Bonney has reverted to her childhood form after just one attack in her Nika form.
However, One Piece chapter 1119 sees the Ancient Robot suddenly jump out from the water, punching Warcury and breaking one of his fangs in the process. Likewise, this is seemingly the first on-screen instance of a Gorosei being injured in the series. The issue ends with reactions to this scene, while Joy Boy can be seen telling the Ancient Robot, whom he calls “Emeth,” that “the time is at hand” as this all happens.
In summation
Overall, One Piece chapter 1119 is an incredibly exciting issue with tons of implications, the most exciting of which is Warcury’s apparent injury at the hands of Emeth. Likewise, the reveal of Emeth’s name also marks the first time fans have seen Joy Boy speak in the manga series, which is momentous in and of itself.
The issue also does a great job of establishing the limits of Bonney’s power, emphasizing that she can’t use her Sun God Nika form for very long at all in her current state. Finally, with Luffy and co’s escape finally and fully set up, it’s expected that the next issue will see Nami and co also begin to set sail and put Egghead Island, along with the arc, behind them.
