One Piece chapter 1120 gave fans much more than they were expecting from the issue’s events, being an exciting and fairly unpredictable installment to the manga series. Officially released earlier this weekend, the issue saw some major sacrifices made, as well as some exciting details confirmed and more.

One Piece chapter 1120 also did a great job of establishing that the action won’t stop in the Egghead arc until the Straw Hats are fully out of the island’s surrounding waters. It’s the Gorosei’s ending actions that make this apparent, not content to let Jewelry Bonney, Bartholomew Kuma, or Vegapunk Lilith leave the island alive.

One Piece chapter 1120 begins with the issue’s cover story, which continues Yamato’s Wano pilgrimage. The cover sees him seemingly pleading with Denjiro, who had taken the kids throwing rocks at him and scooped them up in a net to punish them. Beginning its story content, the issue opens with a flashback to 26 years prior at Punk Hazard.

Professor Clover is seen pleading with Dr. Vegapunk to help him and his allies in their Void Century research. However, Dr. Vegapunk refuses since he’s a World Government scientist now. He also points out that Clover is only free now so they can use him to find his allies.

Clover then reveals his real name as Claíomh D. Clover, and that his big brother was killed right in front of him for having the D. in his name. Clover survived by lying that they were just friends.

One Piece chapter 1120 sees Clover ask how he’s supposed to accept a world where you can be killed simply for your name. Dr. Vegapunk replies he’ll forget what Clover just said, but emphasizes that he can’t help him. Clover responds by saying that the Voices of the Past call out to him and that when he solves the Void Century puzzle, Dr. Vegapunk won’t be able to ignore them.

Focus then jumps ahead in time for four years, which sees Caesar Clown laughing about the Oharan genocide and Clover’s fate. Dr. Vegapunk is seen looking at a wanted poster of Nico Robin, before heading to Ohara with flowers for his friend. He laments Clover not taking the opportunity to escape and survive, questioning if their research was that important to pass on and who would follow in their footsteps after such an event.

One Piece chapter 1120 returns to the present, where Dr. Vegapunk is doing just that himself and quoting Clover. Nico Robin is among those seen listening, clearly crying as she does so. Focus then shifts to the Labo-Phase, where Zoro says they should launch. However, Lilith explains that even the slightest attack from Gorosei member Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro will stop them from landing in the ocean.

Vegapunk Atlas arrives at that moment, knocking Lilith out and turning something off on her. She then tells the others to take off and that she’s leaving Lilith in their hands. Vegapunk York is seen celebrating this, clearly under the impression that Lilith has perished. Atlas then takes off towards Nusjuro, while Jinbe and Zoro take charge and tell the crew to launch and not waste this chance.

One Piece episode 1120: Sacrifice

One Piece chapter 1120 sees the Thousand Sunny launch with the Coup de Burst just as Atlas reaches Nusjuro, scooping him up and flying high into the sky away from the Sunny. The focus then shifts to Egghead’s northern shores as Dr. Vegapunk’s message continues (but says nothing significant). The Marines are seen questioning the Gorosei’s forms and the situation in general, while Luffy is speaking with Emeth.

Emeth calls Luffy "Joy Boy" but doesn’t recognize himself by this name. Emeth says he came like before, and that Joy Boy’s enemies are his enemies. He says he’s glad to fight for Joy Boy again, saying he’ll protect him from danger as he walks toward the Gorosei. The Giant Warrior Pirates then ask if Emeth is a friend, prompting Luffy to recount their conversation. However, they say they heard nothing, meaning that Emeth was speaking via the Voice of All Things.

One Piece chapter 1120 sees Emeth take an attack stance as Gorosei member Saint Shepherd Ju Peter lunges at him. However, his attack fails due to wear and tear, resulting in Emeth losing his entire left arm and a chunk of his left torso.

Gorosei member Saint Jaygarcia Saturn uses this opportunity to launch off of Ju Peter, landing on the bow of the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship and telling Bonney and Kuma that he won’t let them escape.

Sanji then notices the Sunny above, prompting a shift in focus to the ship where Zoro is telling the crew to hang on. Nusjuro asks Atlas if she plans to make a grand sacrifice of herself, but Atlas simply says she’s lending a hand as a massive explosion occurs. This shifts to the final leg of the chapter, where Dr. Vegapunk discusses Gol D. Roger’s crew and their feat, in turn revealing his true name to the world (i.e., Gol D. Roger versus the established Gold Roger).

As this happens, the issue shows several different perspectives play out. One Piece chapter 1120 sees Chopper and Usopp lamenting Atlas’ sacrifice, while York celebrates her being the last Vegapunk (as far as she knows). Nusjuro is shown with half his head blown off from Atlas’ attack, while he and the other Gorosei comment on how there’s still Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast to deal with in response to York.

Emeth then muses on how much he’s rusted away, recognizing that this must be “the time” that Joy Boy once spoke of to him. He asks if he can use “it” as Saint Ju Peter and Gorosei member Saint Topman Warcury rush at him. Finally, the issue’s last panel sees prisoners in Impel Down reacting to the reveal of Gol D. Roger’s true name.

One Piece chapter 1120: In summation

With Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast winding down, the series does a good job of substituting the engagement that his message once brought with various twists and turns in One Piece chapter 1120. Atlas’ sacrifice serves as the best example of this, with the reveal of another D. Clan member in Professor Clover also contributing in this regard.

The issue also clearly sets up a catastrophic conclusion to the Egghead Island arc, with Emeth clearly planning to use some sort of ultimate or last-resort attack on the Gorosei. With just a few chapters seemingly left in the arc, fans can expect the action to continue until the Straw Hats fully escape Egghead’s waters.
