One Piece chapter 1121 was expected to see the Straw Hats’ escape from Egghead Island officially and formally begin, especially with the Thousand Sunny finally launched. Officially released earlier this weekend, the issue didn’t see the Straw Hats’ escape begin but did see the stage set for it to begin in the series’ immediately upcoming releases.
One Piece chapter 1121 instead focused on seemingly concluding Dr. Vegapunk’s message to the world, which in turn revealed the series’ most relevant endgame characters. Along the way, the series saw protagonist Monkey D. Luffy team up with Jewelry Bonney to do the most damage either has done to a Gorosei in the entire arc.

One Piece chapter 1121: Sweet revenge
Foregoing a cover story this week, One Piece chapter 1121 dives into the issue’s story content immediately after its color-spread cover. The installment likewise opens with Luffy warning the others on the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship about Gorosei member Saint Jaygarcia Saturn’s poisonous legs. Several Giants block it as Luffy prepares to spring into action, but he stops as he notices Bonney, back in her Nika form, angrily mumbling and glaring at Saturn.
Instead, he attacks Saturn’s leg to save Bonney from his attack, allowing her to fly up into the air likewise. Saturn is infuriated to see her still fighting, with Luffy encouraging her as the focus shifts to another island. Dr. Vegapunk’s message is heard playing as this unknown island is seen reacting, with him essentially saying the Void Century’s secrets will soon be uncovered.
One Piece chapter 1121 sees Princess Shirahoshi and Nefertari D. Vivi give their reactions as Dr. Vegapunk discusses the Ancient Weapons. Focus is also briefly given to Skypiea, where Conis and Aisa are seen meeting up with their friends, unaware of Dr. Vegapunk’s message. Dr. Vegapunk then discusses how those with rare racial ancestry are persecuted today due to the unknowns of the Void Century.
Bartholomew Kuma flashes back to his conversation with Dr. Vegapunk about his Buccaneer origins. At the same time, Marco muses on his talk with Whitebeard about the “Kingdom of Gods” on the Red Line. A bandaged King is seen in a dark room, remembering his origins as a Lunarian, while an imprisoned Charlotte Pudding remembers when she was bullied for her third eye.
Meanwhile, back at the ship, Saturn attacks Bonney with all his poisonous legs as he claims her to be a parrot, mimicking what she doesn’t understand. Luffy interrupts him by kicking all his legs to the side, as Bonney remembers her father and mother’s backstories and origins while berating Saturn for his actions. One Piece chapter 1121 shows Sentomaru and Kizaru’s reactions as well.
Bonney critiques Saturn for calling himself a god, saying real gods and real heroes exist. As she sobs, she says she wanted to die at times but kept going because of Kuma and Ginny, imagining a future where the trio lived together in harmony as she said so. As Saturn calls them insects and they prepare to attack, the issue bounces around in perspective again, seeing Haredas, Iceberg, Caesar Clown, and Vinsmoke Judge’s reactions.
One Piece chapter 1121: The final stage starts
One Piece chapter 1121 also emphasizes that Emeth still holds back Gorosei members Saint Topman Warcury and Saint Shepherd Ju Peter at the shoreline. Dr. Vegapunk discusses as this is all shown, how humanity should be prepared for the day the answers are revealed and that he has faith in science. He also adds that Roger and Whitebeard’s passings, or the passings of old legends, are the heralds of a new age.
As he says this, Bonney and Luffy attack Saturn, the former with her Liberating Nika Punch and the latter with a Gatling-style technique that lands several blows. In the aftermath, Saturn’s body is shown to be utterly riddled with holes and falling apart as he falls into the sea. Dr. Vegapunk’s speech says that certain individuals in today’s world can’t be oppressed as the Giants and Luffy celebrate while Bonney continues crying.
One Piece chapter 1121 sees Dorry and Brogy point out that the Thousand Sunny can be seen above, as Usopp, Chopper, Zoro, Jinbe, and the others are seen on board. Dr. Vegapunk’s message says that such individuals are the closest to the truth, as he ponders if this is a coincidence or if Roger sets this all in motion with his words. A panel of Roger and his speech from the first chapter appears afterward.
As Dr. Vegapunk says, there’s no guarantee the titular treasure will be found by who Joy Boy wanted; Silvers Rayleigh in Sabaody, Shanks on the Red Force, and pirates on Hachinosu are seen. The Cross Guild at Emptee Bluffs Island is also seen, with the foot soldiers fawning over Buggy the Clown as Dracule Mihawk and Crocodile look annoyed. At Marine headquarters, soldiers even discuss finding the One Piece.
One Piece chapter 1121 sees Dr. Vegapunk say there’s no stopping it now and that the fate of this world will be decided by whoever finds the One Piece. The issue’s final page sees him say this on a double spread featuring all of the series’ most relevant endgame characters.
This includes Shanks, Luffy, Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teech), Buggy the Clown, Akainu, Monkey D. Dragon, Imu (in silhouette form), Koby, Kuzan (formerly Admiral Aokiji), Garling Figarland, and Sabo. A seemingly new character is also shown in one panel, wielding a sword that looks very similar to Shanks’. Unfortunately, the issue ends by confirming a series break next week, making chapter 1121 the series’ last in July 2024.
One Piece chapter 1121: In summation
While One Piece chapter 1121 didn’t quite set up the Egghead arc’s conclusion in the way fans hoped, it was nevertheless an incredibly exciting issue with tons of reveals. For one, the tease of a new character is incredibly exciting and suggests that truly anything can happen in the story’s final stages.
The issue also teases that Luffy can somehow hurt the Gorosei, either with Bonney’s help specifically or by nature of having any second simultaneous attacker. With the Egghead escape likely formally beginning in the next installment, fans can expect Luffy to at least acknowledge that something felt different in his latest attack against Saturn before the arc ends.
