Throughout the week, the spoilers and raw scans for One Piece chapter 1122 have been steadily released by reputable sources within the series’ online community. These alleged spoilers have painted the upcoming release as one of the most exciting and implicitly informative in recent memory by nature of a few key details.

One of the most exciting details in chapter 1122 is the confirmation that Joy Boy was able to store extremely potent Conqueror’s Haki into Emeth, which lasted 800 years. There’s also the sheer power of this Haki, all but confirming it as the most powerful Conqueror’s Haki fans have seen thus far in the series.

However, the rope in which Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki was stored is seemingly missing any distinguishing characteristics based on One Piece chapter 1122’s raw scans. This may debunk one of the fandom’s most popular theories regarding how Black Blades, such as Dracule Mihawk’s Yoru, are made, which revolves around Conqueror’s Haki.

One Piece chapter 1122 all but ruins dreams of Black Blades born via Conqueror’s Haki

To further elaborate, One Piece chapter 1122 doesn’t seem to show the rope in which Joy Boy stored his Conqueror’s Haki changing color to the shade of black which Mihawk’s Yoru is. With this in mind, it seems that Oda himself has debunked the theory regarding Conqueror’s Haki playing a role in the creation of a Black Blade.

This is largely supported by the fact that Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki is, with little to no doubt, the strongest fans have seen in the series thus far. When it was unleashed, Vice Admirals on Egghead Island were barely able to resist it, with the size and scope of the blast being on a level unseen before in general, especially when excluding clashes. The Haki was even powerful and ranged enough to reach Imu in Mariejois and force him to scream in pain as he fell to his knees.

One possible counter to One Piece chapter 1122’s apparent debunking is that tempering a blade with Conqueror’s Haki is about time versus power. However, Joy Boy was able to compress his Conqueror’s Haki into the rope within Emeth to the point that it lasted 800 years. Considering the average human lifespan, it seems unlikely that such a dense level of Haki would not create a Black Blade, or in this case, a black rope.

While this does dispute the idea that Conqueror’s Haki is key to the formation of a Black Blade, there is still the possibility that Armament Haki plays a role. Likewise, with the Haki Joy Boy stored within Emeth clearly being Conqueror’s, chapter 1122 doesn’t necessarily shoot down the general idea that Haki plays a role in the formation of a Black Blade. This would benefit characters like Zoro, who’ve been using Armament Haki much longer than Conqueror’s.

However, this is all technically speculative as of this article’s writing, with the formation process of a Black Blade still unknown and mostly unhinted at in the series thus far. While some implications have been made regarding Armament Haki via Zoro’s training with Mihawk, it’s difficult to assert that this is a confirmation. In any case, fans will surely find the definitive answer to this question by the series’ end.
