One Piece Chapter 1131 was expected to primarily focus on protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, who came face-to-face with the accursed Prince Loki in chapter 1130’s final moments. Officially released earlier this weekend, the latest official installment for the series did indeed maintain this focus, but not as exclusively as fans presumed.

One Piece Chapter 1131 instead also devoted some time to setting up the Straw Hats’ formal greeting on Elbaph, as well as seeing Nico Robin and co finally arrive on the island. However, there seems to be another sinister plot brewing on Elbaph beyond Loki’s attempts at freedom, which could spell disaster for Robin’s hopes.

One Piece Chapter 1131: Loki and Luffy

One Piece Chapter 1131, titled “Loki of the Realm of the Dead,” begins with the issue’s cover story, which sees Yamato pursuing the thief who stole Shimotsuki Yasuie’s sword. Yamato is riding Komachiyo, while Otama is riding Speed. Diving into its story, the issue begins with Luffy celebrating his arrival on Elbaph. He excitedly talks over Loki, who keeps trying to get his attention until he screams out of frustration.

Several giant wolves in the area are shown to be scared by Loki’s scream, as Loki says he’s the Sun God and tells Luffy not to speak unless he says so. Loki explains that the Giants didn’t want to just capture him, but erase his existence, which is why he’s been trapped here for six years. He adds that he’s the pride of Elbaf’s immense strength, but can’t unleash his true power due to his chains being made of Sea Prism Stone.

This focus also reveals Loki’s “special bounty” of 2.6 billion Beri from the World Government. One Piece Chapter 1131 sees Loki add that he’s bound to “Treasure Tree Adam,” seemingly confirming a longstanding fan theory that Yggdrasil is the Treasure Tree Adam. Loki then offers Luffy a deal, asking him to free him by the next dawn by sneaking into the village above and finding the key to his cuffs. In exchange, Loki offers to wipe out any one pirate crew Luffy wants.

Loki then begins explaining that this Realm of the Dead, Elbaph’s lowest layer, is a prison and execution ground where criminals are condemned to. He calls it a prison and an execution ground, adding that if he digs up the snow, he’ll find countless human and Giant corpses. He also adds that this area is called the “First World,” adding that several giant animals which approach have ruled the area for thousands of years.

As the animals all surround Luffy, One Piece Chapter 1131 sees Loki reveal that he is their master after befriending them as a kid. Likewise, he’s clearly implying to attack Luffy if he doesn’t cooperate, but Luffy is simply nostalgic since the beasts are comparable to those on Rusukaina Island. Several other humans then appear, revealed as Loki’s human allies who dress in clothes to hide their being alive from the monsters in the First World.

The humans then mention Shanks visiting them earlier and causing them all to pass out. This prompts Luffy, who has tamed the animals, to ask about Shanks, prompting Loki to call him a coward. This angers Luffy, who transforms into Gear 4 and attacks Loki, who dodges while promising to kill Luffy. He then tries to ask Loki more about Shanks, who implies in response that he’ll need to do something to earn that information.

One Piece Chapter 1131: The Straw Hats and the Giants

One Piece Chapter 1131 then returns focus to the group of Straw Hats Luffy split off from. They realize that Road, now out of his Sun God armor, is running after them across the rope bridge. Chasing him are Gerd and Goldberg, the latter of whom is holding and running with the Thousand Sunny. Zoro tries to attack, but Usopp urges caution since they may be allies to Dorry and Brogy.

Likewise, the group decides to keep running full speed ahead across the bridge, hoping to find a village at the end of it and escape their various pursuers. Focus then shifts once again to the Realm of the Dead, but not to Luffy and Loki’s area. Instead, Hajrudin and Stansen are introduced, having just hunted a moose. Hajrudin says he hunted it specifically for the Straw Hats’ welcome-to-Elbaph meal, urging Stansen to help him carry it back despite the difficulty.

This scene is interspersed with panels which both recount Hajrudin’s role in the Dressrosa Arc, and break down the New Giant Warrior Pirates’ crew and Straw Hat Grand Fleet allegiance. One Piece Chapter 1131 then shifts focus once more to the Giant Warrior Pirates’ ship, where they’re in the seas surrounding Elbaph. It’s revealed that Brook is cutting Robin’s hair for some reason, with the others complimenting his work despite how nervous he is.

Robin herself even says it’s perfect, as it’s revealed that robin has returned to her old hairstyle of having bangs. This is so her hair is like it was when she first met Jaguar D. Saul as a kid, with Robin and the others clearly looking forward to the reunion. They arrive at Elbaph sometime later, excited to have finally arrived. However, the issue ends with someone yelling about Saul having fallen and being unable to get up, suggesting trouble is already afoot on Elbaph.

In summation

One Piece Chapter 1131 begins with a focus on Loki and Luffy, confirming that the former is looking to escape his imprisonment and already has allies to support him. While Luffy initially refuses, it seems likely that he’ll fall for the Elbaph prince’s treachery by nature of wanting to find out more about why Shanks was on Elbaph.

Simultaneously, the other two groups of Straw Hats seem set to reunite at the village in the middle layer of the Yggdrasil tree given their upcoming arrivals. However, they may already have foes waiting for them giving Jaguar D. Saul’s sudden, shocking change in status at the issue’s end.
