One Piece episode 1113 review: Koby proves why he is a hero as a fight breaks out between the Navy and the Blackbeard Pirates

One Piece episode 1113, titled Run, Koby! A Desperate Escape Strategy!, was released in Japan on Sunday, July 28, 2024. This episode focuses solely on the events unfolding on the Pirate Island of Beehive. The spotlight is on Koby, who, instead of prioritizing his own safety, is seen helping the victims of the Blackbeard Pirates.

The previous episode mainly centered around other significant characters not present at Egghead, namely Shanks and Kid. Kid tried to confront one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, which ended in a crushing defeat for him. One Piece episode 1113 then lays the groundwork for the next pivotal clash in the Egghead Arc.

One Piece episode 1113 sets up a war against the Navy at Egghead Island

In One Piece episode 1113, Perona acquires the keys to Koby's cell, where he is bound by a ball and chain. She offers to release him on the condition that he helps her free Moria, who has also been imprisoned. This puts Koby, a Navy soldier, in a dilemma, as it would mean collaborating with a pirate. However, Moria's life is on the line.

Word of Koby's escape spreads across Pirate Island. Pizarro advises the pirates not to harm any escapees, as it would provoke Blackbeard. When questioned by Shiryu about why he does not capture them himself, Pizarro explains that his actions tend to result in a lot of destruction, which would also enrage Blackbeard. Vasco Shot then suggests setting the entire place ablaze to prevent the escapees from having anywhere to hide.

Meanwhile, the escaped slaves, feeling dejected, urge Koby to flee and not worry about them, as they would only slow him down. However, Koby has a different plan in mind - he intends to serve as bait to allow others to escape.

A flashback in One Piece episode 1113 reveals Blackbeard expressing his desire to Koby to transform Pirate Island into a nation affiliated with the World Government, with himself as the king. He plans to use Koby as a bargaining chip, but Koby retorts that the government will not negotiate with criminals.

Koby also states that he is a member of SWORD, which implies that he has renounced his Navy Code to fight the Sea Emperors without requiring official permission. This allows him to help the Navy achieve its goals without having the Navy be held responsible for the results.

But Blackbeard is determined to stick to his plan. He is curious to see if the Government would readily abandon Koby, who is considered a hero.

In the present, Navy soldiers have arrived at the port on Pirate Island and have started attacking the soldiers there. The episode wraps up with the big reveal that Kujaku, Tashigi, and even Garp are there to rescue Koby.

One Piece episode 1113 review

One Piece episode 1113 has a truly cinematic feel, especially in the anime-only scene where Perona confronts the prison guards engrossed in a card game by a lantern in an otherwise pitch-black dungeon. The vivid colors and eerie background music create a truly spooky depiction of Perona's Devil Fruit abilities.

Similarly, the scene depicting Koby's encounter with Blackbeard is visually spectacular. The flickering torches cast long shadows, making Blackbeard seem like a menacing pirate with ominous intentions, which is exactly how he is.

Furthermore, the arrival of Garp on Pirate Island is a thrilling moment for One Piece fans, hinting at an impending major showdown.

In the previous episode, it was revealed that York had orchestrated the attack on nearly all inhabitants of Egghead through the Seraphim. To cleverly divert any suspicion from herself, she had ordered S-Snake to petrify her as well.

The episode then cut to Elbaph, where the Kid Pirates found themselves under attack by allies of the Red Hair Pirates. Kid was growing increasingly frustrated, as his desire was to fight Shanks directly, an opportunity he had missed during their last encounter.

However, as Kid readied his Damned Punk for an attack that could have wiped out Shanks’ entire fleet, Shanks swiftly countered with Divine Departure, defeating Kid in an instant. Following this, Dorry and Brogy sank their ship.
