One Piece episode 1118 is one of the most significant installments to air in the course of Toei Animation’s television anime adaptation yet. Officially released earlier this weekend, the episode saw Imu’s voice in the anime revealed for the first time, as well as revealing themselves to someone non-World Government for the first time.

One Piece episode 1118 was also significant as it bintroduced additional plot points and lore for the series’ worldbuilding, mainly via Nefertari Cobra’s conversation with the Gorosei. He specifically mentions Nefertari Lily, who is revealed to be the ruler of Alabasta at the time of the World Government’s formation.

It’s also heavily implied that Lily is a member of the Clan of D. by nature of Cobra asking about the initial’s meaning after the Gorosei say they can’t help him with Lily. Understandably, One Piece episode 1118 has left fans incredibly curious about anything and everything they can find on the former queen of Alabasta.

Disclaimer: The following article contains spoilers for episode 1118 and beyond of the One Piece anime series. Readers’ discretion is requested.

One Piece episode 1118 introduces Nefertari Lily, a key figure in shaping the series’ contemporary world

As mentioned above, One Piece episode 1118 first sees Cobra ask the Gorosei about what happened to Nefertari Lily after the formation of the World Government. He confirms that she did leave Mariejois after the formation, but never made it back to Alabasta. He proves this by explaining that no document in Alabasta’s royal library, which only includes texts written after the Void Century’s end, has no mention of her.

The Gorosei explain that any answer they may have been able to give has surely been lost to time, apologizing likewise. Cobra then asks them “What is the D.?,” seemingly referring to the middle initial that protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and others bear. This is further supported by Cobra’s context for this question starting with the mention of an 800-year-old letter. It’s more likely than not, that the letter was signed “Nefertari D. Lily,” hence Cobra’s knowledge and question.

Unfortunately, One Piece episode 1118 ends with Imu coming out and simply saying Lily’s name, not allowing the conversation to go any further. However, episode 1119 will see Imu answer Cobra’s question, also addressing a “mistake” that Lily made on a “fateful day.” He claims this mistake led to the spread of the Poneglyphs across the world, presumably meaning both the Rio and Road Poneglyphs.

Imu even suggests that this may not have been a mistake, after all, asking Cobra for Lily’s true name to confirm it. This prompts him to reveal that Lily’s true name is indeed Nefertari D. Lily. Sabo then saves him, prompting him to confirm that he and Vivi also bear the D. since they are descended from the same line as Lili. He then reads a section of her letter, which deals with a truth anime-only fans will soon learn of from the Egghead arc.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about Lily as of this article’s writing, even in the manga. However, fans have seemingly seen, what she looks like in chapter 1116, revealing her to be very similar in appearance to Vivi and Vivi’s mother Titi. Fans can also expect to learn more about her as the series’ final saga progresses, especially if she is truly responsible for spreading the Poneglyphs across the world.
