One Piece chapter 1118 is to be released on June 24, 2024, but the spoilers for the chapter have already come out and the Nika Bonney and Luffy controversy in the chapter has taken fans by surprise more than anyone could have ever thought.

The chapter's spoilers saw the return of Vegapunk's stream for a brief second where he wanted to tell the name of a certain someone, but it stopped again. Meanwhile, the Gorosei are now after the remaining Vegapunks, who are ready to flee alongside the Straw Hat Pirates.

At the end of the chapter, after looking at Luffy's Nika form, Bonney transforms into a proper Nika using her devil fruit. The fandom has been on fire since the revelation of these spoilers, with the majority claiming that the author has stopped paying attention to the plotline and that they don't need another Nika in the story.

According to the spoilers of One Piece Chapter 1118, the chapter starts with the Iron Giant sinking into the sea after the Gorosei impaled him in the previous chapter to stop Vegapunk's stream. Even though Vegapunk's stream has ended, fans would still get to see some reactions from the Grand Line, more specifically from Dressrosa Island.

After stopping Vegapunk's stream, which goes back live again for a brief second to stop at a crucial point, the Five Elders are now after the remaining Vegapunks (the Vegapunk satellites Lilith and Atlas). Meanwhile, Saint Marcus is attacking the ship of the giants that are barely holding on.

Possibly the highlight of this chapter, Luffy again turns into his Nika form as he reverted to his normal form in the last couple of chapters. But this time, he makes Bonney witness his Nika form and encourages her to copy him. Surprisingly, she copies Luffy's Nika form as the last time she tried doing so, she couldn't do it completely.

She believed in a future with Nika more vividly after witnessing Luffy, which could be the reason she transformed perfectly this time. Although this was a wholesome moment, the One Piece fandom wasn't having it with this Nika Bonney and Luffy scene as they claimed they needed no more Nika in the story.

Reactions from fans on the Nika Bonney and Luffy scene

Fans argued that Booney achieving Nika's powers could make Luffy's powers lose their spark, thus claiming that they didn't need another Nika. A fan talked about a vague translation from the spoilers where the Iron Giant reacted after Bonney transformed into Nika.

This had the fandom on fire as when the Iron Giant awakened through the power of the drums of liberation, it didn't react and just apologized to JoyBoy. Whereas now, after Bonney became Nika, it reacted as if she was the real Nika.

"We don't need another nika oda," a fan stated
"Why didn't the robot react to luffy gear 5??" another fan questioned

One fan claimed that if there is another Nika, it belongs in the Straw Hat Pirates. A section of the fandom blamed Oda for his bad writing and treating Luffy's devil fruit powers like a simple power-up, whereas, in reality, it is more than that.

"Yes we do and we need that second one as a crew member," another one said
"Fr it’s so stupid, prob dumbest thing oda has done tbh," another fan stated
"Their treating luffy's power like it's not just a devil fruit lol," another fan said

Final thoughts

Bonney's devil fruit, the Age-Age fruit, gives her the power to manipulate her and others' age, but this also gives her the ability to copy others whom she believes in.

Her technique, Distortion Future: A Future like Nika, consisted of her enlarging herself like Luffy's Gear 5 if she believed in a future where Nika exists. But it only existed for a little while because she had only heard of Nika from her father. Her transformation in chapter 1118 is more exact, but this doesn't mean she has become Nika.

The most she could do was copy Nika's physical features, not his Zoan-awakened powers, because her devil fruit cannot copy devil fruit powers. Only spoilers have been leaked, so fans need to take this Nika Bonney and Luffy debate with a grain of salt and wait for official confirmation.
