One Piece has already started the Elbaf arc in the manga and there are multiple theories covering this storyline, with one of the most prominent being on X by a user named @writingpanini. The most interesting element of this theory is that the recent chapters could be foreshadowing the events of Ragnarok in this arc.
That is because One Piece author Eiichiro Oda has a habit of foreshadowing a lot of events in the series and this arc already featured Road's diorama with fake versions of things from Elbaph. If that proves to be the case and a metaphor for what is going to happen in this storyline, then there is a very good chance that readers could witness Norse mythology's version of the end of the world.

One Piece could be setting up the events of Ragnarok in the Elbaf arc
The basis of the theory that @writingpanini came up with on X is that readers already witnessed a fake Yggdrasil Tree in Road's diorama and the real one that is on Elbaph. It is worth pointing out that the fake Yggdrasil Tree was burnt in these recent chapters and, according to Norse mythology, its destruction represents the beginning of Ragnarok, which is the end of the world.
Ragnarok means "Doom of the gods" and the Elbaf arc has already shown several false deities, such as the Ear God, Cat God and Sun God Road. If author Eiichiro Oda is aiming to foreshadow the events from this diorama on a larger scale, there is a good chance that this arc could display a clash between gods, which could potentially include Luffy since he has the Devil Fruit of the Sun God.
Moreover, Ragnarok started with the death of Balder at the hands of Loki's manipulation, with the latter already being introduced in the most recent chapters. This could mean that this character is going to be pivotal in this arc, perhaps being the main villain, and also could have ramifications that could affect the overarching plot of the series.
The possible consequences of this event
Ragnarok is described in Norse mythology as the chaos that destroys most of the people in the world and leads to the resurgence of a new one. That could serve as an interpretation of Dr. Vegapunk's revelation of the world sinking in One Piece, with perhaps the idea of a new one referring to the aftermath of the World Government's fall where people can be free.
Be that as it may, this suggests that the Elbaf arc could have ramifications in the overarching narrative of the series, accelerating the events of the world sinking. However, the big questions would be how the World Government connects to these events and why they haven't dealt with the Giants of Elbaf if they could be so important.
Final thoughts
If taken into account this One Piece theory, it could be very likely that Eiichiro Oda is setting up a massive conflict in the Elbaf arc. However, it is still early stages in the arc and this being a theory has to be taken with a grain of salt since it could be debunked in the coming chapters.
