One Piece fans were extremely eager for and anxious over the release of spoilers for the upcoming chapter 1122, which thankfully began releasing earlier in the week. However, one point from these spoilers that most of the fanbase seemingly can’t move off of is the apparent loss the Gorosei suffer in the issue’s events.

Per the spoilers, all the Gorosei members on Egghead, except for Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, are sent back to Mariejois by a blast of Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki, which was stored within Emeth. Saint Marcus Mars is shown to have already been at Mariejois for quite some time, which the One Piece spoilers speculate is a result of Luffy’s recent attack on Mars.

Likewise, with how easily the Gorosei were seemingly forced to retreat and handed a loss in combat at Egghead, some argue that the group is nowhere near as powerful as initially thought. However, there could be an explanation that satisfies these fans who are seemingly disappointed in their strength, hinging on an implicit ability of Saturn.

One Piece’s Gorosei may only have the ability to teleport spiritually, not physically

In short, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn may have a hidden and unique ability that One Piece may not have explicitly spelled out for fans. However, there is some implicit evidence for this ability via the Gorosei’s retreat and their initial summoning to Egghead Island. This ability is that he was able to summon the other Gorosei members to Egghead by using his own Haki, giving them corporeal forms without actually transporting their physical bodies.

The first piece of evidence comes from Saturn initially summoning the Gorosei, seen at the end of chapter 1109 and the beginning of chapter 1110. While the latter issue’s opening scenes see the Room of Power, where the Gorosei are always seen, is empty in terms of bodies, there is a single large summoning circle left behind. This could be the other four Gorosei members’ physical forms transformed, anchoring them to Mariejois while they send their spirits to Saturn.

The next major piece of evidence also comes from One Piece chapter 1110, with the four members’ initial arrival to Egghead never showing their physical bodies. Instead, large black amorphous blobs appear, which slowly fill out the shapes of their Yokai forms. These blobs are also shown rising out of summoning circles, further supporting the idea that these aren’t their actual physical bodies.

Chapter 1122’s spoilers serve as the major final form of evidence that Saturn is the only one not sent back to Mariejois by the blast of Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki which Emeth uses. Instead, he is reverted to his human form and remains on Egghead physically, while the other Gorosei are transported back. If Saturn was using his own Haki to sustain their images, then it makes sense that a blast of superior Conqueror’s Haki would undo these apparitions.

It’s also worth mentioning that Saint Marcus Mars was already present in Mariejois after being attacked by Gear 5 Luffy. With Luffy’s Gear 5 form previously shown as oozing Conqueror’s Haki, it’s possible that this attack undid Mars’ transformation as he was sent flying away. While Conqueror’s Haki isn’t shown as Luffy attacks Mars, the two’s bodies do make full contact, which could be how the Haki that oozes out of Luffy in Gear 5 affected Mars.

While spoilers claim the other three Gorosei members are seen reverting to their human forms before returning to Mariejois, this doesn’t necessarily mean it was their physical human form. In turn, this would explain why the Gorosei weren’t as powerful as fans previously thought, as they were simply recreations sustained by Saturn’s Haki. Likewise, Saturn would also get a pass, as sustaining their images with his own Haki would hinder his abilities and strength.
