Blackbeard is one of the most controversial characters from One Piece, possessing the ability to use two devil fruit powers with the potential to use even more, as indicated by his attacks on Amazon Lily and the Heart Pirates. While the exact reason behind the pirate's reason to wield multiple devil fruits is still unknown, many fans speculate that this could be due to him having multiple hearts.

This could also mean that he is partially immortal, implying that killing him would take multiple tries. However, what if there are immortal beings in the series? Could they also use more than two devil fruits? Fortunately, the Gorosei fit this description, as they are speculated to be immortal, leading to the deduction that they could have various devil fruit powers inside them.

Devil fruit powers are one of the major power scalings in One Piece (with the other one being Haki). This power scaling allows individuals who consume a devil fruit to gain supernatural powers. Although the reason these powers are obtained through fruit is still not revealed, Jabra of the Cipher Pol speculated that a devil resides inside each devil fruit, giving the eater its powers.

As emphasized in the series already, a person can only use the powers of one devil fruit, meaning that if a second one is eaten despite having one's powers, the body of the user would burst into pieces. Although Jabra's speculation indicates that this situation would result in the devils fighting each other inside the user's body, science has debunked Jabra's speculation.

However, there is one exception to this rule: Marshall D. Teech (more commonly referred to as Blackbeard). This was revealed during the Paramount War arc when Blackbeard Pirates raided Marineford, and their captain stole Whitebeard's devil fruit, the Tremor-Tremor fruit, due to some mysterious reasons.

This brought the theories of Blackbeard having more than one heart, making him partially immortal. However, the Five Elders could replicate this feat more efficiently because they are speculated to be immortal.

This could explain why, during the Egghead arc, despite Luffy continuously hitting them with his powerful attacks, he is unable to significantly damage their bodies. In addition to their Zoan devil fruits, showcased in their yokai forms, the Gorosei could have additional powers that haven't been showcased yet.

Final thoughts

This article should be taken as a form of entertainment, as it is entirely based on speculative information, such as the idea that the Gorosei are immortal and have additional power other than their yokai forms.

However, these hints could become plausible if the Gorosei gain a spotlight before the final battle with the Straw Hat Pirates. For instance, Imu instantly killing Saturn, along with Luffy's numerous attempts to take down the Gorosei, could be a key point to the Five Elders' immortality.
