One Piece chapter 1128 is set to be released on October 7, 2024, but the spoilers for the chapter have already been released. To the fandom's surprise, the chapter showcased a Sun God which was different from Luffy's Gear and was hinted in the hints as Chopper's monster point. This could mean that the Straw Hat captain has to fight for his position as the representation of this God.

However, as revealed in the chapter, the situation the current Straw Hats were in was an illusion. This could make this new Sun God an illusion that is unrelated to the historical figure that was inherited through Luffy's devil fruit. Moreover, the appearance of this new Sun God also reveals that it could be a fake as it has a deer attached to its head (or covering its face).

One Piece: Luffy gets a run for his money as a new Sun God is introduced

One Piece chapter 1128 spoilers revealed that the Straw Hat Pirates finally managed to escape the LEGO castle and reached a nearby village. However, to their surprise, the village had humans instead of Giants revealing that the Straw Hat Pirates weren't present on Elbaf Island.

Moreover, as they kept exploring the village, a mysterious giant persona popped out of nowhere which the chapter titled 'Sun God.' This entitled Sun God chased the Straw Hats and smashed them into a wall, which had Tony Tony Chopper inside it. The Straw Hat Pirates then ran to ride the same giant cat that was attacking them in the previous chapter.

Other than the fact that everything happening to the Straw Hat Pirates is an 'illusion,' the one new thing the One Piece chapter 1128 introduced was a new 'Sun God.' Luffy's Gum-Gum devil fruit (later revealed as the Human-Human devil fruit) in its awakened form (Gear 5) gave the user the power to turn everything to rubber.

Moreover, Luffy's demeanor in this form was very similar to the Sun God. As the Straw Hat Pirates were seen running from it, the next chapter could see Monkey D Luffy fighting it because the Straw Hat Pirate is the current inheritor of Sun God's will.

Is this Sun God an addition to the historical figure's lore?

As revealed in the chapter's spoilers at the start, everything that Straw Hat Pirates had been facing since the past two chapters was an illusion. So, this new Sun God could very well be another illusion to scare the Straw Hat Pirates.

Moreover, as revealed by his persona's silhouette during Who's-Who's speech, the Sun God didn't have anything like a deer's face attached to it or covering it, so this new Sun God could have no association with the historical personality known as the Sun God. While this is still an assumption, it is advised to wait for the official confirmation or wait until further spoilers (full summary) arrive.
