In One Piece, even seemingly minor characters can be brought to the forefront at any time, becoming important for the story. As per the spoilers of chapter 1125, the franchise once again proved its unpredictability by focusing a potentially prominent subplot on Haredas, a character only the most avid fans remember as the Merlin-looking scientist who helped Nami during the two-year timeskip.

According to the leaks of One Piece chapter 1125, Haredas is an old acquaintance of Dr Vegapunk, and their friendship may soon be rekindled, leading to intriguing developments. Based on this, it's safe to say that One Piece author Eiichiro Oda never stops surprising its fans, immersing them into a multifaceted fictional world where nothing is random.

Oda integrates One Piece’s worldbuilding with the core themes of his tale, where characters and places form a cohesive whole that portrays a realistic, ever-evolving globe. The series features countless characters, from the Straw Hats to their friends, allies, and enemies. Each one with its own quirks interacts with one another, affecting the main plot directly and indirectly, as Haredas is about to do.

Weatheria's Haredas may play an unexpectedly major role in One Piece's final saga

Who is Haredas in One Piece?

At present, Haredas appears as an old man with a long, white beard and hair. He wears a long robe, which, combined with his physical features, truly makes him look like a wizard. Haredas has spent his entire life studying weather science, and his greatest scientific achievement was helping to build the artificial sky island of Weatheria.

Before the timeskip, Haredas encountered Nami, who had been sent to Weatheria by Bartholomew Kuma. Kind and affable, the old scientist carried Nami around the island, allowing her to explore its unique environment. He also showed her how to use a wind knot to produce and control various types of wind phenomena.

Although Nami tried to manipulate him with fake tears and even stole some scientific equipment, which caused her to be locked up, Haredas got the “Cat Burglar” released out of compassion for the terrible news regarding the death of Portgas D. Ace, her captain’s brother. Haredas then decided to teach Nami how to control the weather, effectively becoming her instructor for the following two years.

Together with the other residents of Weatheria, Haredas taught Nami how to use Weather Balls, enabling her to incorporate them into her Clima-Tact. When the time of the Straw Hat crew’s reunion came, Haredas and the others took Nami to Sabaody.

Haredas and Vegapunk’s unexpected talk in the latest chapter

Set to officially release on Monday, September 9, 2024, on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus website and app, One Piece chapter 1125 promises to bring its fair share of exciting developments. With the story moving from the conclusion of the Egghead Incident to the beginning of the Straw Hat crew’s travel to Elbaf, the chapter will focus on multiple scenarios, one of which directly involves Haredas.

As seen in One Piece chapter 1125, with Dr Vegapunk dead and the Straw Hat Pirates gone, the World Government prepares to take possession of Egghead’s Power Plant and Punk Records. Vegapunk York, who betrayed her fellow Vegapunks in exchange for a chance to become a Celestial Dragon, is shown to be particularly pleased with this thought.

However, York soon notices something weird about Punk Records, i.e., the upper part of Egghead’s Labophase and, more specifically, the place where Dr Vegapunk stored his brain. Before York can do anything, Punk Records detaches itself from Egghead and flies away.

Shortly after, One Piece chapter 1125 reveals that Vegapunk Shaka, Vegapunk Edison, Vegapunk Pythagoras, and Vegapunk Atlas are alive. They are all inside Punk Records, flying in the sky over the sea. The Vegapunks then combine Edison’s head, Shaka’s body and legs, Atlas’ left arm, and Pythagoras’ right arm to build a new body in which their minds are merged, but they can still talk independently.

As Pythagoras notes, even though they carried Punk Records with them, they still can’t invent anything due to the lack of budget and materials. Edison replies:

“That’s where our friend comes in!”

Edison then makes a call, and the friend he has just mentioned is Haredas. Edison greets the old scientist by saying:

“Hello, Weatheria! This is Vegapunk here.”

Understandably surprised, as the news of Vegapunk’s death has just been spread worldwide, Haredas asks Edison what he wants, but the scene changes before the readers can learn more about Edison’s request.

The future perspectives

Once again, Eiichiro Oda’s brilliant storytelling hit the mark. No one expected a seemingly minor character such as Haredas to reappear during the final saga, but, as always, One Piece managed to surprise its fans. Given their scientific expertise, the narrative connection between Vegapunk and Haredas makes perfect sense.

In fact, with the Vegapunks now flying away from Egghead on the floating Punk Records, there’s no better place for them to go than the sky island of Weatheria, especially since Haredas and Vegapunk seem to be on good terms. In fact, Vegapunk Edison explicitly called Haredas a friend and was sure they could count on him. Likewise, Haredas immediately answered Vegapunk’s call.

To be fair, One Piece had already foreshadowed the acquaintance between Vegapunk and Haredas. Vegapunk’s laboratory in Egghead is located on a manufactured Island Cloud, strongly recalling Weatheria’s appearance. Moreover, the giant, cracked, open egg-shaped structure towering over the Island Cloud reminds us of the effect of Weatheria’s Weather Balls when unleashed by Nami’s Sorcery Clima-Tact.

Essentially, Egghead appears to be, at least from an aesthetic point of view, a clone of Weatheria, hinting at the connection between Vegapunk and Haredas. As seen when he helped Nami despite her initial mean behavior towards him, Haredas is an extremely compassionate and good-hearted person.

A further testament to his kindness, Haredas also stated that technology should be used to protect humanity. He was shocked by Nami’s idea of using the Weather Balls as weapons. Therefore, he will likely respond positively to Vegapunk Edison’s request for help.

Funnily enough, however, Haredas has no idea of how money works. Thus, unless he has been taught that by Nami, he is not the person the Vegapunks should talk to when they are looking for funds to finance their inventions.

Nevertheless, it will be quite interesting to see what the Vegapunks have in mind. Considering what Vegapunk’s message revealed during the Egghead Incident, perhaps they want to build something that can thwart the World Government’s plans to sink the One Piece world underwater.

Haredas’ involvement may also foster Nami's return to the spotlight. Despite being one of the three original Straw Hats, along with Luffy and Zoro, Nami was seemingly left in the background as the story went on. Now, the manga can bring the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates back to a more prominent role in the plot by leveraging her knowledge of weather science and her ties with Haredas and Weatheria.
