Meito swords in One Piece are one of the biggest mysteries in the series considering how these inanimate objects demand something from their user in exchange for wielding them in battle.

The biggest example of this scenario was when Zoro started getting used to wielding Enma and it demanded Haki from the swordsman, making him extremely weak. This goes back to the flashback that aired during the Wano arc when Zoro met Kozaburo, who revealed that meito swords have a personality of their own.

So, even though these are inanimate, they still have desires. This could be the only logical explanation for Fujitora's blindness as it could be one of the demands from his sword, Yakuza Kasen.

During the Wano arc of One Piece, where Zoro continued his fight against King, the Straw Hat started to get overpowered by the Beast Pirate. This made him recall a memory from the past when he trained under Shimotsuki Koushirou in the Shimotsuki Village.

Zoro recalled meeting a grumpy old man who used to sit by the river of the village. After a couple of interactions, the old man gave Zoro two swords, without anything in return, advising him to hone his swordplay. The old man also told Roronoa Zoro about the swords having desires, as these demand something from their users in exchange for wielding them in battle.

During all this, Zoro didn't get to ask about this old man's name, but in reality, he was a distant relative of the Straw Hat Pirate. His name was Shimotsuki Kozaburo. Zoro knew that he was the grandfather of Kuina but he didn't know that this old man was also a distant relative of his as they both belonged to the Shimotsuki Family.

This old man was also the swordsmith who forged two of Zoro's current swords: Enma and Wado Ichimonji. After Roronoa Zoro received Enma in exchange for Shisui, he experienced Kozaburo's advice as the sword sucked out his Haki. This meant that Enma actually desired Haki, proving Kozaburo's point.

So if a Great Grade Meito Sword, Enma, had such a big desire, what could be the desires of Supreme Grade Swords, the strongest Meito swords? For this purpose, let us take into account the example of Admiral Fujitora and his most recently revealed Supreme Grade Sword, Yakuza Kasen.

Yakuza Kasen was revealed as a Supreme Grade Sword in the SBS section of One Piece volume 109. However, the series hasn't revealed anything regarding the sword's desires but fans can deduce those based on the condition of the Admiral.

Admiral Fujimoto, as the fans are already aware, is blind. However, despite having no sight, Fujimoto's swordsmanship is top-tier. It could be considered better than some of the swordsmen who have vision. He gave his sight willingly due to the sadness he experienced after witnessing the evil of this world. But there could be another reason behind this.

Fujitora's sight could be one of the demands of Yakuza Kasen, his sword. His eyes are showcased as completely white, which results from blindness, not inflicting wounds.

So, he could have given his sight away in exchange for wielding Yakuza Kasen. The sword being of a high caliber could have granted him a non-visual perception, which is the reason behind his masterful swordsmanship.
