The One Punch Man anime and manga series has given fans plenty of iconic moments to savor and enjoy. There are many reasons for the existence of such moments, and the protagonist plays a big role in it. How ONE wrote Saitama makes him an incredible hero. Given the gag nature of the series, it is easy to get lost in the hilarity of various situations.
However, Saitama is the true definition of a hero. The reason why Saitama is a well-written character is not because of his monstrous strength that quite literally defies logic. But, it is what he represents in the series - hope.
The second season of the anime series, however, didn’t do justice to Saitama and fans had their qualms about the animation. However, there was a larger, more glaring issue that needed work. The anime adaptation could have given fans one of the most iconic moments that would have been shown during the Super Fight arc.
How One Punch Man season 2 didn’t do justice to Saitama or to the fans of the manga
There were plenty of moments that hyped the fanbase during the second season of the anime adaptation. However, the anime adaptation failed to capture the essence of the manga series in certain aspects. There was one story arc in the second season that fans particularly enjoyed - the Super Fight arc.
This section of the story involved Saitama disguising himself as one of the martial arts practitioners and entering a tournament. The Caped Baldy wished to experience a fighter who could push his limits.
Saitama isn’t the most passionate hero. He seems quite uninterested if we compare him to the likes of Mumen Rider. However, things took a massive turn when we saw Gyoketsu in his monsterized form. He was a formidable opponent in his human state as it is.
However, the monsterization made him even stronger. Suiryu was a crowd-favorite, all set to win the grand prize in this tournament. However, he was no match for Monster Gyoketsu, who had already injured some of the heroes present there.
Following this, Gyoketsu was summoned, and Bakuzan took his place and he nearly killed Suiryu. However, Saitama saved him in the nick of time and helped the other fallen heroes as well.
His entrance was done extremely well in the manga. We could see Saitama’s serious expression, and once again, he barely made it in time. This moment hyped the entire fanbase. However, the anime failed to adapt the manga panel shown above.
Saitama’s entry in the anime was lackluster because of the studio’s choice to skip this panel. Naturally, fans weren’t happy when they watched the show and it only added to the unending list of problems that One Punch Man season 2 suffered from.
Conclusion
J.C. Staff’s treatment of the One Punch Man manga was far from ideal. The manga panel in question should have been animated, and it would have been one of the most iconic scenes in the anime. However, the studio didn’t animate it, which negatively impacted Saitama’s entry at an extremely crucial time. Fans hope to see better work from this studio now that One Punch Man season 3 is in the works.
