Boruto and Naruto fans don't have the best of relationships despite the fact they both like the same franchise, mainly because supporters of the latter don't really like the former. In that regard, there were a lot of discussions recently on X that perfectly describe this situation, which involves the character of Eida and one of the Six Paths of Pain, the Asura Path.

As most Boruto readers and viewers know by now, Eida is a cyborg with very special abilities, which is something that has been divisive to a lot of fans of the franchise because the technology of this ilk wasn't that present in the original series. However, the Asura Path makes use of mechanized armor and various ballistic and mechanical weaponry in Naruto, thus making the complaints with Eida all the more inconsistent.

Boruto and Naruto fans discuss the roles of cyborgs and technology within the franchise because of Eida and the Asura Path

This discussion on X started because a person, who is most likely a Naruto fan, claimed that Eida doesn't fit with the overall aesthetic of the franchise and her concept of being a cyborg doesn't fit this world-building as a whole. In that regard, someone showed how one of the Six Paths of Pain, the Asura Path, made use of several types of missiles and mechanical armor, which was also a rarity at the time of the original series.

The general perception within the community is that it is only a problem when Boruto does it, which is fair to say because the Asura Path made it clear that technology has always been present in the Naruto universe. Furthermore, the sequel takes place more than twenty years into the future, which means there was enough time for greater development and technological advancements, especially considering how chakra usage could speed up said growth.

Moreover, when it comes to her aesthetics, there is no denying that the character designs of the sequel are considerably different from what was shown in the original manga by author Masashi Kishimoto. This is especially emphasized in the Two Blue Vortex time skip, which has given the sequel a much stronger individual look.

Reactions online

As mentioned earlier, this discussion on X is a prime example of how the franchise is currently divided among those who have embraced the sequel while there are others who will never accept it. That is emphasized because some fans view the sequel as a "cash grab" and unnecessary, only undermining the legacy of what is one of the most successful and influential manga series of all time.

On the other hand, there are fans who claim that the sequel gets a lot of unnecessary hate and has only gotten better, pointing out the current Two Blue Vortex time skip as a massive step in the right direction. There is also a considerable generational gap, with younger fans oftentimes being more open to embracing the sequel.

"it's always funny how no one ever has any good arguments against it, it's just ''well naruto used to have less technology!'' yeah mf so did we, it's a natural progression of the world lmao," someone said.
"Thats cause boruto sucks. Also, I don't know what your talking about," another person said.
"The dead body being turned into a zombie cyborg with lasers and missiles highlights the odd alien powers Pain has," someone else said.

While this is a small conversation, the element of Eida being a cyborg is something that has marked a major difference within the fandom.
