Orochimaru might be the only one who could be plotting something behind the scenes in Boruto considering how he has hardly made an appearance, despite the ongoing frenzy with the Shinju. With his previous track record being that of a devious person, he might be plotting something big and it might be related to taking over one of the Shinju.
Just like the Otsutsuki, Orochimaru is also capable of being reborn by transferring his soul into a new body through the curse mark. The Immortality Jutsu would help him transfer his soul inside one of the Shinju and from that point onwards, Orochimaru would have complete control over it, giving him access to the Ten-tails and, eventually, the chakra fruit.

Boruto: Exploring Orochimaru's plan to take over the body of a Shinju
Orochimaru is one of the primary antagonists of Naruto and a supporting character from Boruto. The character only made an appearance at the start of the series where he confronted his clone, Mitsuki. After this incident, Orochimaru disappeared from the frontlines.
Even though the author didn't make it clear whether he converted to the good side, it might be safe to assume that he is still the same devious and manipulative shinobi. So, while the entire village is getting destroyed by the Ten-Tails' Shinju, where could Orochimaru be, and could he be planning to involve himself with the current issues with the Ten-Tails?
For this purpose, let's first see how he can transfer his consciousness inside a new body. Orochimaru uses the Immortality Jutsu, which he himself created, to change husks. This jutsu involves a large snake emerging from his body, which might be considered his soul, that engulfs the target's body. The target is then shifted to the world of the subconscious where it is devoured by Orochimaru.
After it the target is devoured, the snake wilts, and the target's body is overtaken by Orochimaru. He then modifies the body according to his needs and continues with the same body for 3 years (when he again goes through the same procedure to change bodies).
Orochimaru might make a sudden appearance at the frontlines where he could devour one of the Shinju's bodies (when one of them is separate from the others). After taking over, he might not modify the Shinju's body to remain hidden and become potent.
Eventually, when the iron is hot, Orochimaru might start playing his cards and defeat all the other Shinju by taking their blind spot. This could give Orochimaru access to the entire Ten-tails which he might then use to summon the chakra tree, thus being able to gain the chakra fruit.
Analysis and final thoughts
There are a lot of things to consider before regarding this article as a theory. Firstly, Orochimaru is currently the leader of the Hidden Sound Village and might have formed a pact to never interfere with the Hidden Leaf Village. So, he would only interfere with the current ongoing battle if he is still the same power-hungry person as he was in Naruto.
Secondly, as the Shinju have already showcased their strengths, it might be hard for Orochimaru to find a blindspot that he could devour. However, as both of these scenarios are possible, there are chances that Orochimaru might again emerge as one of the major antagonists.
