With the release of Oshi no Ko chapter 161, the manga series saw Aqua Hoshino follow up with his revenge plan as he took a major step in trying to kill Hikaru Kamiki. While Hikaru tried to stop Aqua by manipulating him, Aqua found just the perfect lie allowing him to kill Hikaru and protect Ruby's idol career.
The previous chapter saw Aqua confronting Hikaru Kamiki for being a liar. He had been using Ryosuke and Niino to commit crimes for him. Moreover, he also incited Niino to try and murder Ruby. Hence, Aqua could no longer comply with his mother's request and proceeded to go along with his original plan, which was to kill Hikaru Kamiki.

Oshi no Ko chapter 161: Aqua sacrifices his dreams to protect Ruby's idol career
Oshi no Ko chapter 161, titled 'Future,' opened with Crow Girl/Tsukuyomi describing Hikaru Kamiki. He was obsessed with the idea of killing those who could surpass Ai Hoshino.
Hence, he used his charisma to influence the ones around him to kill others and increase Ai's significance. He had effectively lost his former nobility and had become a broken soul who could only fulfill himself by taking people's lives. For that reason, killing Ruby had become his destiny.
Oshi no Ko chapter 161 then switched to Hikaru Kamiki and Aqua Hoshino as Hikaru claimed that there was no point in protecting Ruby's future. That's because, unlike Ai Hoshino's legacy, she was bound to wither away and die. Nevertheless, Aqua was determined to protect Ruby's future from Hikaru.
Hikaru further tried to manipulate Aqua, claiming that killing him was meaningless. That's because Aqua killing him would mean the end of Ruby Hoshino's idol career. People don't care about the truth and will go after Ruby, labeling her as a murderer's sister.
Even if that weren't the case, Hikaru was certain that there were things Aqua himself wanted to do, including falling in love, hanging out with friends, returning favors and watching his sister pursue her dream as an idol.
Evidently, Hikaru was right as Aqua wished to become a surgeon, respond to Kana Arima's feelings, hang out with Himekawa, call Miyako "Mom," repay Akane's kindness and witness Ruby perform at the Tokyo Dome.
However, given Ruby's future was at stake, Aqua was willing to throw away all of his dreams. As long as Hikaru was alive, Ruby's future was always in danger. With that in mind, Aqua came up with the perfect lie to protect Ruby's idol career. As long as he was successful in portraying that he wasn't a murderer, Ruby's career would be safe. Hence, Aqua Hoshino stabbed himself.
As Aqua had stabbed himself, it would seem like Hikaru Kamiki, the one whose crimes were exposed in his biopic had gotten into a fight with the movie's scriptwriter.
This lie would portray that after Hikaru stabbed Aqua both of them had fallen off the cliff to their deaths. Just as Hikaru said, the media and public never wanted the truth, hence Aqua decided to present them with a lie. Right after, Aqua got hold of Hikaru and jumped off the cliff, heading to their possible deaths.
