Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 1: Kana shines while Akane struggles during Tokyo Blade rehearsals

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 1 opening events: Tokyo Blade stage play rehearsal begins

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 1 starts by introducing Tokyo Blade’s story and characters: Blade, Tsurugi, Kizami, Monme, Toki, and Saya Hime. The episode shows a scene with Toki and an injured Saya Hime. The narrative then shows the first day of rehearsal, featuring Aqua Hoshino as Toki, Akane Kurokawa as Saya, Kana Arima as Tsurugi, Aiyu Narishima as Kizami, and Sakuya Kamoshida as Monme.

The episode shifts focus to Ruby visiting her mother, Ai Hoshino's grave, mentioning it has been four months since B-Komachi's debut. In that time, they've held small concerts, live streams, and uploaded videos, gaining more fans. She updates Ai on Aqua, who continues acting and now has a cute girlfriend.

They're even working together on a show, though Ruby thinks he’s a playboy. She tells Ai she's doing well and promises to work hard as an idol and one day perform at the Dome where Ai was meant to.

The narrative returns to the rehearsal. Aqua gives an overview of the play’s story. Kana's character and the protagonist Blade belong to the Shinjuku Cluster, while Akane and Aqua's roles are from the opposing Shibuya Cluster, with the plot centered on the Shibuya Struggle. Akane asks Aqua if he's disappointed about not having more scenes with Kana, but he denies it.

Reflecting on his true motive for acting – finding Ai's murderer who’s likely connected to the Lalalai Company, Aqua eyes the stageplay director and Lalalai troupe manager, Toshirou Kindaichi, suspecting a connection to Ai. As rehearsal resumes, producer Sumaki Raida praises everyone's skills, including Aiyu, whose initial performance in Sweet Today worried him.

He also commends Aqua's stage debut and notes the rivalry between Akane and Kana, initially favoring Akane’s performance. However, his perception shifts when Taiki Himekawa, playing the protagonist Blade, shares a scene with Kana.

In Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 1, Himekawa encourages Kana to give it her all, inspiring her to fully immerse herself in her character. Her shocking performance then impresses everyone. Akane watches Kana from afar, impressed by her acting, and begins taking notes to improve her own skills.

In Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 1, day 3 of rehearsals begins with Akane explaining the workings of stageplay rehearsals. She notices small groups forming and joins Aqua, who is alone. They discuss Kana's acting skills, with Aqua noting that if Kana performs on par with Himekawa, Lalalai’s lead actor, Akane will lose to her. During rehearsals, Kana continues to outshine Akane.

Akane attributes her struggles to the script, which alters her character, Saya's personality. The character also gets overshadowed by Tsurugi. Saya’s lack of scenes leaves much of her personality unknown. Thus, Akane has to imagine the character, which conflicts with the script. Despite her frustration, Akane tries to adapt to fit the stageplay’s needs.

On rehearsal day 5, scriptwriter GOA joins the team. It's announced that the original author will also visit later that day. Akane seeks Aqua's opinion on the script changes. Aqua advises Akane to raise her doubts with the director and scriptwriter. When Akane hesitates, Aqua voices her concerns instead.

GOA acknowledges Akane's reservations but explains they’re necessary due to the tight timeframe of the stageplay. However, director Kindaichi firmly rejects any further script changes, believing they would disrupt the play's flow. Reluctantly, Akane accepts the decision.

In the closing scenes of Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 1, Abiko Samejima, Tokyo Blade’s author, makes an entrance alongside Kichijouji, the author of Sweet Today. Akane introduces herself to Abiko, but the shy author hides behind Kichijouji.

Abiko watches the rehearsals and, impressed by everyone's acting skills, declares that the stageplay must be a success. However, she feels the need to modify the script. The episode ends with Abiko requesting to change everything in the script.
