With the release of Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 10, the anime finally saw Ruby Hoshino take the lead as the protagonist. Up until now, the anime had been giving special focus to everyone except the female lead.

While this was due to the previous story arc's developments, the anime's female protagonist starting to get her spotlight only after nine episodes seemed questionable. Fortunately, animation studio Doga Kobo did justice in showing her drive to achieve her goals as an idol.

That's not all as the anime also focused on Aqua Hoshino. Following a more than decade-long plan to kill his father, he finally let go of it.

As seen in Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 10, the anime saw Aqua Hoshino finding out about his possible father's death. Aqua had been hunting down his biological father ever since his mother Ai's death when he was four years old. But, upon learning that his possible father had passed away years ago, he was left with no goal to pursue.

Just as he wondered about what to do next, he started noticing the people who cared about him. The sequences where Kana and Akane questioned his whereabouts from the previous night effectively revealed that Aqua had finally begun to appreciate them. This scene was adapted by Doga Kobo in a much better fashion than in the manga.

Soon after, the animation studio changed the entire vibe surrounding Aqua, switching him from a cold-hearted to a softer character. This was especially evident when Kana Arima pointed out the same.

With the anime finally ending Aqua Hoshino's revenge story, Doga Kobo switched its protagonist from Aqua to Ruby. However, they were able to do it seamlessly, without any issues. Right after the anime ended Aqua's character arc, the focus was switched to B-Komachi.

Mem-Cho wanted to increase the idol group's YouTube numbers and suggested different video plans, the first of which was a room tour video. While Ruby seemed excited at first, she later realized that doing a room tour would mean showing her special interest in Ai.

This scene was adapted by Doga Kobo perfectly as it depicted Ruby delving into her past, revealing why she had become an idol in the first place.

However, the anime did not stop at that and doubled down on the focus on Ruby's career as an idol in the scenes that followed. As B-Komachi planned on releasing new songs, it was revealed that former idol group composer Himura had agreed to compose a song for them. Unfortunately, he was yet to finish working on it.

During this, the animation studio went above and beyond in depicting all shades of Ruby. At first, she was shown throwing a temper tantrum at Miyako Saitou, forcing her to call Himura and ask him to work swiftly. Following that, Doga Kobo showed Ruby's mature side as she revealed why she wanted the idol group to take quick steps forward.

Ruby later also sent Himura a video of herself, conveying her appreciation for his previous work. Right after, the anime did what the manga never delved into. After watching Ruby's video, Himura instantly got to work as he felt motivated to make a song. Doga Kobo added their own spin to the scene, showing Ruby taking Himura to an astral plane that filled him with motivation to write new songs.

With such scenes, the anime succeeded in portraying Ruby as the protagonist of the Private Arc.

Final thoughts on Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 10

As one must have realized, Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 10 wasn't an episode that had many noteworthy events. Instead, it was an episode that effectively helped fans transition their focus from Aqua to Ruby for the upcoming Private story arc. Fortunately, as mentioned above, the anime did a good job of adapting it. With that, fans can hope for the animation studio to adapt in a manner as beautiful as the 2.5D Stage Play Arc.
