Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5: Aqua discloses his goal to Akane while Tokyo Blade stageplay escalates Akane and Kana’s rivalry

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5, titled The Curtain Rises, aired on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 11:00 pm JST. In this episode, Aqua reveals his true intention of murdering someone to Akane, though he frames it as a hypothetical scenario.

Surprisingly, Akane readily offers her help, accepting Aqua for who he is and expressing her willingness to share in his sins, all to become his girlfriend, even if it's only a business relationship.

This episode also marks the start of the Tokyo Blade’s 2.5D stageplay, intensifying the rivalry between Akane and Kana.

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5 opening events: Aqua shares his real objective for becoming an actor with Akane

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5 begins with Akane, Aqua, Gotanda, and his mother sharing a meal. Akane, wanting to repay Aqua for saving her life, vows to help him in any way she can.

Aqua allows Akane to watch his previous acting works. This prompts Gotanda to note Aqua's change of heart, as he had been reluctant to share them before. Akane observes Aqua's difficulty with emotional acting.

Gotanda explains that Aqua often collapsed during shoots when his past was triggered, mentioning Aqua’s talent for resonating with other actors. Later, Akane asks Aqua why he started doing stageplays.

After initially avoiding answering, Aqua hypothetically reveals his true goal of wanting to kill someone who sits at the top of the showbiz industry, aiming to climb the ladder to reach this person.

Akane shocks Aqua by responding, "Let’s kill him together," expressing her willingness to accept him as he is and carry his burdens, stating that’s how far she’d go to stay his girlfriend, even if it remains a business relationship.

However, Akane expects Aqua to fulfill his responsibilities as her boyfriend, which includes helping her win the rivalry against Kana Arima and Himekawa, Lalalai’s most talented actor.

Recognizing that Kana and Himekawa are a formidable pair and she can't defeat them alone, Akane asks for Aqua’s assistance, and he agrees. They seek Gotanda's advice, and he promises to train them personally.

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5: Akane and Kana’s escalating rivalry prompts Himekawa to challenge Aqua

In Oshi no Ko season 2, episode 5, Ruby and Minami visit the rehearsals as Ruby is worried about Akane. They run into Melt, who tells them that rehearsals are over and that Aqua and Akane left together, with Gotanda picking them up.

Minami suggests they might be spending time together as a couple, but Ruby, confident in Aqua, insists he wouldn't do anything inappropriate and vows never to forgive him if he did.

Meanwhile, Melt and Sakuya argue when Sakuya attempts to hit on Minami, and Melt steps in. Later, Ruby tells Mem-Cho and Kana about adding Sakuya, prompting them to warn her about playboys like him.

Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5 shifts focus to the rehearsal room, where Kana and Akane argue. Kana reveals that Akane once looked up to her as an inspiration when they were younger. As the argument escalates, Aqua and Melt intervene.

Later, Akane discusses Kana's personality with Aqua. Meanwhile, Kana talks to Himekawa and Melt about her dislike for Akane.

In Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5, these conversations highlight the roots of their rivalry and the reasons behind their animosity. Meanwhile, Melt asks Himekawa for his opinion on who is better.

Himekawa acknowledges that, despite their different approaches to acting, both girls are equally talented. However, he states that Kana will win this time, as he is her partner.

Himekawa then steps onto the stage, pointing his sword at Aqua in a provocative manner. Determined not to lose, everyone starts rehearsing, giving their best effort.

In the closing scenes of Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 5, the narrative focus is on the start of Tokyo Blade’s stageplay. Abiko and Yoriko stand outside the Stage Around Play theater, with the former anxious about the upcoming performance. Yoriko comforts her, while GOA offers additional reassurance, expressing his confidence in the script he and Abiko prepared together.

The audience includes Mem-Cho and other cast members from the Dating Reality Show, along with Ruby, Miyako, and Gotanda. Gotanda, however, is concerned about Aqua's ability to perform emotional acting but expresses his faith in Aqua’s talent as an actor nonetheless.

In a backstage hallway, Akane and Kana, dressed for their roles, declare their intention to win again and express their pleasure at sharing the stage together again. Meanwhile, Aqua struggles alone in a room, staring at a picture of Ai on his phone.

As memories from the past flood back, he fights to maintain his composure amid an engulfing panic attack. Despite this, he prepares to use his turmoil to his advantage on stage. The episode concludes with the curtains rising, signaling the start of the Tokyo Blade 2.5D stage around play.
