Heading into Chainsaw Man chapter 183, one of the biggest points of contention in the fandom for mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto’s flagship series was Pochita’s true intentions and goals. Although the discussion had focused primarily on his most recent actions heading into the latest issue’s release, his behavior throughout all of Part 2 has been scrutinized.
However, Chainsaw Man chapter 183 finally gave insight into what Pochita’s mindset in recent issues had been via Denji’s words. This essentially confirms that, at least in recent issues, Pochita was truly looking out for Denji’s best interest. Yet it’s likely that this latest development not only absolves Pochita of his questionable actions of late, but also confirms that he never meant Denji any harm throughout Part 2.
Chainsaw Man chapter 183 confirms Pochita has always had Denji’s best interests at heart
Within Chainsaw Man chapter 183, Pochita all but inarguably proves himself as a true ally to Denji in all respects. Pochita was clearly looking out for Denji’s well-being and mental health by reminding him of these wonderful experiences he has to be happy about, even if the loss of the people in them is painful. Likewise, Pochita also reminds Denji that there will always be things worth living for, and that the pain that is life’s events will never cease.
This latest development is especially significant in the wake of Pochita’s earlier behavior in Part 2 and the theories which the fandom came up with in response. Certainly, Part 2 has at times portrayed Pochita in a very sinister and nefarious way. Chapter 151 serves as a good example of this, placing Pochita in front of Denji and Nayuta’s burning apartment as he and Denji’s old life seemingly wave goodbye to Denji.
Chapter 156 doubles down on this with Pochita’s appearance as Denji is being cut up by Public Safety. The way Pochita s[ple in this scene and the fact that he didn’t seem interested in helping Denji further teased to fans that something was amiss. This scene in particular is what launched many theories about Pochita using Denji for his own gain. The fact that Pochita also wanted Denji to make a new contract just chapters before these two events also helped.
These theories were further intensified by the apparent suggestion that Pochita took over Denji’s body forcibly in chapter 171. While language-version differences in paneling and artwork may dispute this, at least the official English release for the series doesn’t see Denji pull his own ripcord. Likewise, much of the fandom assumed that Pochita took over Denji’s body forcibly for some sinister, ulterior motive.
While it may be true that Pochita did take over Denji’s body forcibly, Chainsaw Man chapter 183 all but proves he did so out of love for Denji and wanting to see him happy again. In fact, this may even explain why Pochita took the approach he did with Denji earlier in Part 2; he knew that this path of suffering would eventually lead him to happiness again. Likewise, Pochita’s loyalty to Denji is all but proven, thanks to chapter 183’s events.
Final thoughts
While it’s difficult to say Chainsaw Man chapter 183 fully and inarguably proves Pochita’s loyalty to and love for Denji, it essentially does all but that. The two’s bond is cemented yet again in the issue’s events, and Denji’s own admission of this means fans can take it as law. While there is still the chance for a shocking twist on this plotline as Part 2 approaches its end, it seems unlikely given what fans have seen in the latest official release.
