Following its focus on introducing protagonist Takumi Iruma in the premiere, Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 was expected to see Takumi’s horizons expand. Officially released on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the latest installment for the series did indeed see Takumi begin branching out and exploring the new world he lives in.

Of course, this meant saying goodbye to the villagers he had been staying with, heading onward to the big city in Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2’s opening act. Excitingly, this leads to major developments for both Takumi’s personal and professional lives.

Brief episode recap

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 began with Maple the Killer Spider capturing Takumi in its spider silk to hold him hostage. This was due to Maple feeling lonely and neglected with how busy Takumi was. As he agreed to spend the day with Maple, another villager walked in, realizing that Maple could be an essentially infinite source of spider silk. This led the village to begin making clothes out of it, which were typically only owned by nobles.

With Maple now busy with work of her own, Takumi went into town to run his own errands, first paying a visit to Bobon the blacksmith. As he was there, Bobon and Banga revealed that they had arranged for him to get a ride to the city of Bolton from a trader coming by next week. On his way home, Takumi purified some meat for the villagers, learning from them that he should be secretive about his ability to use light magic outside of the village.

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 saw the villager explain that only a few people in the world can use it, thus it is incredibly coveted. Takumi then spent his final few days pouring all of his power into developing Bord Village, wanting to make it a safer and more convenient place for them to live. He said he did so out of a desire to repay everyone as the week had passed and the merchant known as Papek had arrived.

Takumi was introduced to Papek, whom he then showed a basic healing potion he had made. Papek was seemingly impressed by it, but didn’t say anything to Takumi at the moment. As the other villagers said goodbye to Takumi and Maple, the villagers gave him one final gift in the form of a custom cloak made from Maple’s spider silk. After a tearful goodbye, Takumi boarded the carriage and departed, which left an impression on Papek and his allies.

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 then introduced the others as Heath, Riell, and Bogar, also known as Lion Fang, a C-rank adventuring party working as Papek’s bodyguards. Takumi then explained his pet Killer Spider Maple was in the bag, with Riell bothering her in her sleep and being attacked likewise. However, Maple then immediately took a liking to Bogar, sleeping soundly in his chest.

Papek then asked Takumi if he could buy the healing potions he had made from him when they were suddenly attacked by a horde of more than 20 goblins. However, Lion Fang made quick work of them, with the rest of their journey being uneventful. They arrived at Bolton in the Kingdom of Barcula three days later. Takumi immediately headed for the Adventurer’s Guild with Lion Fang, where he registered himself and Maple since there was no alchemist’s guild.

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 saw Takumi being told that he just had to do one easy quest a month in order to keep his registration active. Focus then shifted to Takumi negotiating with Papek regarding his healing potions and others he was selling. However, Takumi grew suspicious since Papek gave him such a good offer. Papek then suggested Takumi buy a home with a workshop for him to continue his work, offering to help him find one.

After settling on a home he liked, Takumi then asked one of Papek’s men what the smell was. The employee explained that nobles use magic purifying devices to treat their sewage, but that this isn’t done for the city at large. Takumi and Maple moved into their home the next day, with Takumi first focusing on making a toilet for his home. Papek then visited, but was wrapped up in spider silk by Maple, which he thankfully seemed to like and forgave him.

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 then saw Papek use Takumi’s bathroom, clearly confused by the toilet. Takumi explains he attached a magical device which uses purification to break waste down. This obviously led Papek to realize he could use light magic. However, Papek’s main concern was clearly profit, asking Takumi if he could make 100-plus of his toilets.

Papek also advised Takumi to hire a slave rather than employees so he can bind the slave to secrecy via contract. Papek explained that since he has light magic, he’s “chosen by God” according to the Holy Empire of Sidonia’s Church of Divine Light, which runs the country. The Church apparently exploits anyone with healing magic, adding that they likely won’t ignore the use of light magic in any capacity.

However, Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2 saw Papek say he had a plan to both allow the toilets to be sold and keep Takumi safe. As he said this, Maple eerily approached and stared at the pair, seemingly suggesting something about the Killer Spider. The episode ended with Papek taking Takumi to a slave trading company, where he wandered off and met a beautiful seemingly elven girl in the building’s courtyard.

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time episode 2: In summation

Overall, the second episode in the highly anticipated Winter 2025 isekai series gets the series on the right track in an exciting way. The series is also very naturally introducing conflict, using Takumi’s light magic abilities as a means of establishing both his career path and his enemies. Likewise, with the Holy Empire of Sidonia identified as who Takumi needs to avoid, it’s likely that his entrepreneurial endeavors will attract their attention sooner rather than later.
