Boruto Two Blue Vortex is turning out to be the true redemption series for the original franchise, potentially becoming the face of Shonen in the future. While branding it as superior to Naruto might be too far-fetched, the new elements it introduced have certainly outclassed the Naruto series, which could explain why the old cast seems less relevant in the current series.

In Naruto Next Generations and the Naruto series, everything revolved around the strongest jutsu techniques and Kekkai Genkai. However, Two Blue Vortex introduced Shinjutsu, which has clearly taken over the entire series with the recent awakening of Ten Directions. This shift might be why Naruto and Sasuke have been sidelined before the sequel series even gained momentum.

Why the introduction of Shinjutsu techniques changed the entire Boruto franchise

Power creeping is the introduction of a new element (power-scaling) in a story that makes the already-present elements (power-scaling) inferior or weak. In the Naruto and Boruto series, jutsu techniques served as the primary means of power-scaling, effectively showcasing the abilities of the shinobi within this universe. The prime examples being Tailed-Beast Bomb jutsu and Rasenshuriken.

Moreover, Kekkai Genkai added a nice amount of lore to the series, like the introduction of the level of Sharingan in the Naruto series, which continued till the Naruto Next Generations series. However, the latter series started introducing another sub-class of power-scaling very slowly, the shinjutsu technique.

These techniques were entirely unrelated to ninjutsu or any other derivation of ninshu that was created by the Sage of the Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, as these were the techniques used by Gods, the Otsutsuki clan. The start of the Boruto series introduced Kawaki's Daihakoten, and the last few chapters introduced Eida's Omnipotence, which changed the entire retrospect of the series.

At the end of the Naruto Next Generation series and at the start of the Two Blue Vortex series, the Seventh Hokage and Sasuke Uchiha were removed from the front. The reason behind this might be a simple one: to keep the original power-scaling to a side while 'shinjutsu' takes over the entire verse of Two Blue Vortex.

One of the biggest events in the sequel series was Kashin Koji awakening his Shinjutsu technique, the Ten Directions, and the introduction of the Shinju. So, the future might be in the hands of Two Blue Vortex solely because it decided to divert from its mainstream power-scaling and opted to go for a much more unique one.

Final thoughts

The mainstream power-scaling getting sidelines doesn't mean that the storyline has completely abandoned it. With the temporary sidelining of Naruto and Sasuke, their future returns might also feature the return of the power-scaling.

Until then, the fandom can enjoy learning about the lore of Shinjutsu and how diverse it can get. Right now, the entire lore of it is dependent on the overpowered nature of Shibai Otsutsuki, and his revelation might take the series to a whole new level.
