The Ranma ½ anime has recently come up with a MAPPA adaptation that takes this classic 80s property and presents it to a modern audience. After the first three episodes of the anime were released, many people praised how close it is to author Rumiko Takahashi's manga, which is a welcomed decision after decades of not having a new adaptation of this series.

It is also worth pointing out that the Ranma ½ anime started running on October 6, 2024, in Japan and will continue this weekly schedule for the coming months. Moreover, this Studio MAPPA production will have 12 episodes, although recent metrics suggest it has been a hit thus far, and a second season seems to be the most logical outcome.

What is the plot of the Ranma ½ anime?

Taking place in the 80s, Ranma Saotome and his father Genma head to China to train in martial arts, but they end up falling into cursed springs. This results in both characters transforming into other things when touched by cold water, with Ranma turning into a girl and Genma into a panda, who can only return to normal with hot water.

They return to Japan and meet the Tendo family, with Genma and their father agreeing years ago that Ranma would marry one of the latter's daughters. This resulted in him getting engaged against his will with Akane Tendo, the youngest of three daughters who has a temper and someone who dislikes men, leading to a lot of clashes with Ranma, coupled with the latter's antics as a woman.
