Ranma ½ episode 7, released on November 17 in Japan, featured the memorable battle between the protagonist's female version and Kodachi Kuno. This fight showed the sheer insanity that this series can provide while also proving Ranma's skills as a fighter and how far Kodachi is willing to go for victory and romance.
Moreover, Ranma ½ episode 7 can also be considered a textbook example of the series' formula. It features Ryoga's rivalry with the protagonist and his love for Akane, a Ranma suitor (Kodachi), and a battle with a lot of comedic histrionics typical of author Rumiko Takashi.
All of this has been improved by the excellent animation work by Studio MAPPA.

Ranma ½ episode 7 has Ranma preparing with Ryoga to face Kodachi
At the beginning of Ranma ½ episode 7, the female version of Ranma Saotome is training with Ryoga Hibiki in the Tendo dojo because the former is going to replace Akane Tendo in the Martial Arts Gymnastics fight with Kodachi Kuno.
While Ryoga is helping, his true intention is to injure the protagonist so he doesn't win and Kodachi gets him as his boyfriend, leaving the path wide open for him to be with Akane.
By the next morning, Ryoga manages to reach the place of the battle without losing his path and is planning to enter to break Ranma but he gets water thrown at him by accident and turns into a pig, who Kodachi finds.
Moreover, Ranma and Akane get to meet her and she is already pulling several stunts to defeat them before the official battle begins. The stunts include setting up tramps and using tranquilizers.
The two young ladies eventually step up into the ring and female Ranma decides to use his real name, generating a lot of confusion within the crowd.
However, as the battle begins, Kodachi keeps using dirty tricks and one of them is throwing Ryoga's pig form at Ranma with a chain so he has a hard time fighting.
Kodachi and Ranma fight as the former's shenanigans ensue
The second part of Ranma ½ episode 7 focuses on Kodachi and Ranma fighting, which shows the degree of insanity of the Martial Arts Gymnastics.
Moreover, the young Kuno sibling has no problem adding extra elements to her tools and even throws things that are outside of the ring with the referee's permission, including his own brother.
While Ranma manages to keep up to some degree while having to deal with Ryoga, Kodachi throws hot water at them and they return to their regular forms, although the steam keeps them from being discovered.
This is when Akane steps in with a hose and throws water at them, with a great animation sequence of the protagonist swimming through that wave.
It is later discovered that Kodachi had her underlings moving the ring for her convenience, although the female version broke the floor, so they had one chance to decide the winner.
Ultimately, Ranma wins by using one of the ring's tentpoles to knock Kodachi out.
Final thoughts
Ranma ½ episode 7 was an action-packed moment for the series and also showed how far author Rumiko Takahashi can go when it comes to insanity.
It also displays Kodachi's ruthless nature in combat and the protagonist's ability to adapt to a lot of circumstances.
