Ranma ½ episode 8: Ranma's first kiss is stolen and a new battle begins

Ranma ½ episode 8, released on November 24 in Japan, features the introduction of the "The Golden Pair of Kolhotz High School", Azusa Shiratori and Mikado Sanzenin, as they engage in battle with Ranma and Akane. This episode shows the protagonist's first kiss, although it comes with a twist that most people weren't expecting.

Moreover, Ranma ½ episode 8 is another example of how far author Rumiko Takahashi can go in terms of establishing new and creative ways for fighting, this time involving ice skating. It also features one of the most anticipated moments of the manga, with Ranma and Akane being very close to kissing for the first time in the series.

At the beginning of Ranma ½ episode 8, Akane Tendo is seen spending time with her friends and one of them asks her to join the ice skating team. However, while she is discussing this, she realizes that P-Chan is not with her, and it turns out that the latter was stolen by an ice skate dancer.

Akane runs to Ranma and ends up finding the thief, Azusa Shiratori, with both characters agreeing to an ice skating competition with her and her partner, Mikado Sanzenin.

Ranma later tells Akane that he is not doing this because Mikado hit on her but he has his own reasons. It is also shown that he doesn't know how to ice skate, with Ryoga Hibiki, no longer in his P-Chan, requesting to participate in the competition. However, neither of them can do it and Akane has to teach first.

The protagonist decides to use his female version to learn this because of the possible embarrassmant of being bad at it as a male. It turns out that Mikado and Azusa are there, with P-Chan now having a necklace that the latter put on him but the biggest issue would be with Ranma.

The second part of Ranma ½ episode 8 focuses on Mikado starting to flirt with the female version of the protagonist and giving her a kiss. This moment, naturally, shocks Ranma, who runs away from the ice skating place to the bathroom while crying, turning into a man once again to get his revenge.

Ranma steps in once again with a strong determination to get even and Mikado proves his abilities as a fighter with his move, "The Dance of the Dead". This ability shows him dancing at great speed while hurting the protagonist time and time again until he is knocked out, although Akane, who carries his body, reveals that the protagonist won since Mikado is also knocked unconscious.

It is revealed later that Ranma has hit Mikado with great speed, to the point that his body cannot move. The protagonist and Akane also share a romantic moment where the latter challenges the former to kiss her, although they can't do it out of stubbornness.

Final thoughts

Ranma ½ episode 8 is another key moment for the series since it has introduced two of the most beloved foils to the protagonists in Mikado and Azusa. Moreover, it features Ranma's first kiss and his first truly romantic moment with Akane, to the point they almost kissed.
