Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 was expected to continue focusing on Subaru Natsuki and co, also detailing their counterattack plan following the Witch’s Cult’s latest moves. Officially released on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the episode did exactly that, also showcasing the other impacts of the Witch’s Cult’s presence in Priestella.
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 also gave a brief focus to Emilia in its final moments, confirming her status and giving some implications as to what Regulus wants with her. While the first half of the Attack Arc has flown by, it seems to be building towards a memorable climax to leave fans on before taking its roughly two-month hiatus.
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 begins Subaru and co’s plans against the Witch’s Cult
Brief episode recap
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 began with a focus on Garfiel Tinsel and Mimi Peralbaton, who came upon several Priestella guards massacred. The perpetrators were two strong Witch Cultists, whom Mimi said they couldn’t fight. Garfiel initially disagreed but acquiesced to a plan that saw them briefly incapacitate the Cultists before running away. Mimi convinced him by reminding him of why he was here in the first place.
The focus then shifted to Reinhard van Astrea, who confronted his father Heinkel Astrea as he held Felt hostage. Felt kept telling Reinhard to just act, but he continued being cautious despite her pleas. The focus then shifted once more to Subaru Natsuki and co, who discussed the Witch’s Cult’s plans. It was revealed that the remains in the city aren’t those of the Witch of Envy, but their location is unknown to all but Priestella’s Council of Ten.
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 then saw Subaru ask about Capella Emerada Lugunica. The others said she’s likely mocking the fact that the royal family died out, but Wilhelm van Astrea revealed there was once someone known as Emerada Lugunica. However, she was said to have died over fifty years ago. She was also said to be beautiful and intelligent but as ruthless as one can be.
The group was then contacted by Ricardo Welkin and Hetaro Pearlbaton, where the latter revealed Mimi had been hurt. However, this was then interrupted by Capella making another announcement to the city. As she spoke about people attacking the government office, Garfiel opened the door to the room Subaru and co were in with what appeared to be Mimi’s lifeless body in his arms.
Thankfully, Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 confirmed that she wasn’t dead, but Felix Argyle was unable to close her wound. Wilhelm seemingly recognized the affliction as Capella continued speaking to the city. She then promised to begin attacking Subaru and the others, with some sort of sonic attack then afflicting all of them. It was suggested to be sonic via their pain ending as Capella’s announcement concluded.
Kiritaka Muse then arrived, revealing Otto Suwen wasn’t with him and he didn’t know of Otto’s location. He did reveal that the witch’s remains do exist, but can’t be moved, making them incapable of fulfilling Capella’s request. It’s physically impossible to move them because doing so would destroy the city, with this also revealing that it’s the remains of the Witch of Pride, Typhon.
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 then saw Subaru approach Garfiel and say he needed his strength to win this battle. Garfiel then explained what happened to him and Mimi, with Mimi attacked as Garfiel was trying to run away with her carelessly. Ricardo then inspired the depressed Garfiel to continue fighting for Mimi’s sake, getting him out of his funk for Mimi’s state.
Julius then asked Subaru what his plan was, which started with disabling the metia Capella was using to speak to the city. Ricardo, Julius, Wilhelm, Crusch Karsten, and Al went with Subaru on this mission. However, Al then departed so he could search for Priscilla, which he did at least seem sorry for despite Julius and the others excusing him.
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 then saw Al leave Subaru with the advice of not telling the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony his name if he ran into him. Those remaining in Subaru’s party then began moving out, finding a colony of eggs in the town square. They were then attacked by the same cultists who attacked Garfiel and Mimi. However, despite their best efforts, they couldn’t defeat the two.
As they prepared to attack again, a massive black dragon then appeared, which introduced itself as Capella. Subaru then addressed Capella directly, with his words and demeanor confusing her. Julius then attacked Capella and did severe damage, but her wounds quickly regenerated. A bell then began ringing, prompting Capella to take her leave, with the group splitting up.
Garfiel, Wilhelm, and Ricardo handled the two cultists, while Subaru, Julius, and Crusch made their way to save the hostages. However, the two were then met by an enemy, which was none other than the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony. Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 saw Subaru instantly recognize who he was, becoming furious at the sight of him while thinking of Rem.
A furious Subaru asked the Sin Archbishop what he was doing here, prompting the reveal that he was Roy Alphard, not Lye Batenkaitos. Subaru grabbed his whip and prepared to fight, as the episode then shifted focus to Emilia. After waking up in a strange room, Regulus Corneas entered, asking her if she was a virgin or not as the episode ended.
In summation
Re:ZERO season 3 episode 4 gave primary focus to Subaru Natsuki and co’s efforts against the Witch’s Cult, as well as the losses they had suffered so far. The episode ended by both setting up a major fight for Subaru against Roy Alphard, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony responsible for Rem’s current state, and confirming Emilia’s status.
