Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 was expected to focus on Subaru Natsuki and co launching a counterattack against the Witch’s Cult and the various Sin Archbishops present. Officially released on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the episode instead took a pause before diving back into the conflict, seeing Subaru and his allies strategize.

This eventually led to Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 seeing Subaru make a speech to the general population of Priestella in an attempt to inspire them. Likewise, these efforts all but began the group’s counterattack, setting up an explosive finale to the Attack Arc before the series takes a roughly two-month break.

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 sees Subaru become a true hero for more people than just Emilia

Brief episode recap

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 began with a focus on Al, who had seemingly just killed several Witch Cultists. He then picked up a communicator, which was connected to the one Emilia had picked up. Emilia told Al to tell Subaru the locations of Regulus Corneas and Capella Emerada Lugunica, adding that he needs to keep Beatrice safe. However, Al pointed out that she’s forgetting that she’s a princess being held prisoner and should ask Subaru for help.

However, Emilia said she was fine despite appreciating his concerns. She added that she had no doubt Subaru would save her and was likewise focusing her efforts to minimize his risk in doing so. Al agreed to this, leaving Emilia questioning why she felt so confident right now. The focus then returned to Subaru Natsuki, Anastasia Hoshin, and Julius Euclius, where Al arrived and repeated the information Emilia had just told him to Subaru.

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 saw Garfiel Tinsel arrive as well, prompting Subaru to say they should act on Emilia’s information. Number 184 then caught Emilia as she was sneaking back into her bed, saying she didn’t expect her to return. Emilia realized that Number 184 wanted her to run away, which 184 also realized. 184 then discussed how the courage she thought she had was fleeting, while Subaru explained his plan to take back the city.

Subaru’s first goal was to rid the city of Sin Archbishop of Wrath Sirius Romanée-Conti’s influence on the populace. However, Anastasia pointed out that it won’t be that simple since the Witch’s Cult still controls the watergates. Subaru added that the Witch’s Cult may be planning a trap, but Al countered that it isn’t in the Sin Archbishops’ nature to consider the possibility of their loss.

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 saw Subaru ask Anastasia to speak to the city, but she said that she wasn’t good enough to achieve what they wanted. Subaru suggested Crusch Karsten, but the others said it wouldn’t be right in her condition. Subaru essentially asked everyone else to do it until Garfiel pointed out that it had to be him since no one else could say they’d beaten a Sin Archbishop before.

Subaru and the others realized that Garfiel was right considering the full circumstances, with Master Swordsman Reinhard von Astrea being the only other legitimate option. Julius then pointed out how far Subaru has come since first embarrassing himself in front of the kingdom’s knights. He essentially admitted his respect for Subaru and added that he is the person right for the job of speaking to the people and calming them in this dark time.

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 saw Subaru doubt himself, which Al also piped up about to the effect of why is it Subaru’s responsibility to carry so much weight. Al said that Subaru should behave as he does and focus on saving Emilia, calling the Witch’s Cult “passing evildoers.” Subaru countered that this is something he has to do, like saving a kid from walking out into the street, to which Al said losing is unacceptable and he has to win if he does this.

Al added that his losses wouldn’t just be his own anymore if he did this, leading Subaru to think about his struggles during season 1 and how far he’s come with Emilia and the others since. Subaru likewise said that such a responsibility is business as usual for him, with Garfiel getting excited to see Subaru in this state. Subaru then said he’d make the announcement, adding that it didn’t change what he needed to do and that he already decided to be a hero.

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 saw Al depart as Subaru thanked him for helping to make up his mind, approaching the Metia thereafter. The focus returned to Number 184, who said she wished Emilia had run away so things with Regulus didn’t change. Emilia tried convincing her otherwise, but 184 rejected this. She explained that Regulus killed her entire village after choosing her as his wife, which also happened to all his other wives.

The two were then interrupted by Subaru’s voice being broadcast across the city on the Metia. Subaru opened by confirming that he’s not a part of the Witch’s Cult, explaining the current situation and the threat the group poses. Subaru’s speech saw him say he’s not anyone special, and that he’s so scared his legs are shaking. He then called himself weak and useless, saying even now he wanted to run away and that he didn’t think he was the right person for this.

However, Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 saw him say he can’t run away and fight likewise, because that’s all there is to him as a person. He told the people not to end up alone and to stay with someone and look at the face of whoever’s there with them. Subaru said he couldn’t stand how scared and miserable everyone must look right now, saying it made him want to fight for all of those sad people.

Subaru then asserted that the Witch’s Cult was wrong here and that he’d fight despite being weak and stupid because he refused to lose to someone he knew was wrong. He added that he wanted all of them to fight too, by being brave and not succumbing to fear.

Subaru’s words clearly inspired the citizens, as well as Emilia. He ended by saying his name and that he’d win as the person who defeated the Sin Archbishop of Sloth, urging them to be brave and fight with him.

Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 saw Emilia tell 184 that the voice was Subaru, her knight and that she won’t run away since she wants 184 and all the other wives to be happy too. She thought about Petelgeuse and Fortuna while saying this, saying they should start her wedding. Meanwhile, Anastasia and the others praised Subaru for his speech, including Al who stayed behind. The episode ended with Reinhard and Otto appearing before the final fight began.

While Re:ZERO season 3 episode 7 wasn’t quite as action-packed as fans hoped, it did feature significant growth and development for Subaru, which is always welcome. Likewise, it also established the statuses of the series’ most central characters, seeing many of them unite ahead of their assault in the Attack Arc finale next week.
