Uzumaki animation received harsh ratings from horror fans worldwide after the anime released its second episode on October 6, 2024. The reason behind this was simple: the sudden quality drop in animation and every other aspect. However, amidst all this confusion, an executive producer of the anime finally addressed the issue.
Jason DeMarco claimed that the series was destined to doom from the start without blaming anyone for it. The executive producer also stated that they had to choose between canceling the series and airing it, and he aired it anyway because of the hard work everyone put in. He was also glad that the anime fandom was looking the issue up.

Uzumaki animation issue addressed by the series' executive producer
Jason DeMarco, one of the executive producers of the anime, addressed the Uzumaki animation issue during an online program that was also shared on X. However, after gaining buzz over the internet, his comments were removed from the social media platform.
According to the executive producer's comments, Uzumaki's downfall was expected. The executive director was hesitant to go over the details of the issue. Still, he stated that the production team had to choose between abandoning the series, airing just one episode, or airing all four episodes, however possible.
Looking at the work everyone put into the anime, the production decided to opt for the last option, which, as expected, backfired due to the below-average Uzumaki animation in episode 2.
Moreover, the executive producer used inclusive language and didn't blame anyone for this to maintain professionalism. Jason DeMarco also stated that he was glad the anime fandom was looking over this issue on the internet because he wanted the world to know what was happening with one of the most awaited Fall 2024 anime series.
Final thoughts
Announced in 2019, Uzumaki anime was one of the most awaited anime series and, arguably, the most awaited horror anime adaptation. However, the series faced continuous delays due to some 'presumed' production issues. It finally aired after almost five years later on September 29, 2024.
Despite a 5-year production delay, the Uzumaki animation showed its true colors in episode 2. Moreover, with the words of one of the official staff members of the anime, fans can expect the future two episodes to be the same, proving yet again that horror is a genre that would never receive a satisfactory anime adaptation, much less a perfect one.
Even without Jason DeMarco's comments, the downfall of the Uzumaki anime could be predicted by how the staff members and even the studio changed over time. When announced in 2019, Uzumaki was set to be animated by Studio Drive (Konosuba season 3). After a while, Studio Akatsuki was also added to the production, assuring the fandom of a promising animation.
However, everything changed on the premiere when the official X account of the anime announced the staff members. The announcement revealed that a new studio, Studio Fugaku, was responsible for producing episode 1.
Moreover, the second episode was produced by Studio Akatsuki, showing that the project was either taken away from Studio Drive or they left it willingly. So, is the below-average Uzumaki animation due to the studio and the staff members, or is it due to another issue? Sadly, nothing can be said.
