Blue Lock season 2 finale was released on December 28, 2024. In its climax, the episode teased the return of Rensuke Kunigami. The character was sidelined after the Second Selection of Project Blue Lock as he failed to make an impact. However, Ego allowed him to enter the mysterious 'Wild Card' room from where he exited in the sequel's finale.

Even though the episode didn't confirm anything related to the character's future involvement, the fans were happy over the return of their favorite character. As expected, fans couldn't ignore Kunigami's 'rough' appearance and noticed that he might have gone through hell in the 'Wild Card' room and his personality might have changed.

Blue Lock season 2: Did Rensuke Kunigami return to Project Blue Lock?

Isagi's last-second goal crowned Team Blue Lock as the winner of the Exhibition Match in Blue Lock season 2 finale. After that, Ego congratulated his team and stated that there was no exit from Project Blue Lock as everyone would be called again in the future. A few days after the match, Ego was seen on a video call with some people.

These people looked like the managers or executives of football federations from all around the world. The sequence suggested that Ego Jinpachi might be planning something very big for Project Blue Lock in the future (which was also hinted at by the appearance of a foreign football player).

During the video call in the Blue Lock season 2 finale, Ego also called out Rensuke Kunigami from the 'Wild Card' room. After the Second Selection of Project Blue Lock, Kunigami's football career was supposed to end given how he lost to Shido's team. However, the player took a gamble and entered the mysterious 'Wild Card' room for a second chance,

As seen in the sequel's finale episode, Kunigami might have returned much stronger. Moreover, given his appearance, his personality might have also changed.

The fans were over the moon with the return of Kunigami, as this was the most unexpected move. Moreover, some fans even titled the player 'Noa 2.0' (Noel Noa is the top football player), given how strong he was when he played in Project Blue Lock.

However, some fans were more concerned about Kunigami as his appearance hinted that he might have gone through some extreme training inside the 'Wild Card' room. One fan even claimed that Kungami's life philosophy might have also changed as he wanted to be a hero in the past but after his return, the only thing up his mind could be his 'ego.'

"The goat is back," a fan said
"Noa 2.0, let's go," another fan said
"Bro what happened to Kunigami when he lost?" another one said
"Nah homie definitely went through something cause he looks like he’s on demon time like fuck being hero. Also I have a feeling he was forced to watch the U-20 match," another one claimed

Final thoughts

Kunigami was one of the kindest players in the series as he comforted others to do their best, despite Project Blue Lock being all about 'selfishness.' However, fans might be shocked by his return in the future because his time in the 'Wild Card' room might have impacted his personality, both physically and mentally.
