A new Death Note trademark has been rumored to be filed by Shueisha, the publishing company in charge of the property. This has led to speculation that there could be a new series involving everybody's favorite notebook. While several fans have come up with their own interpretations of this trademark situation, it is worth pointing out that nothing beyond this has been confirmed, as of yet.
The project name could be Death Note Killer Within, which seems to suggest that there will be a new series of this popular 2000s franchise. Further developments regarding the project are awaited in the coming months.

A new Death Note trademark seems to suggest a potential new series for the franchise
As mentioned earlier, there is no information at the moment regarding this event beyond the fact it was rumored that Shueisha filed this trademark name. Some fans online have asked if this could mean a new anime adaptation of the original story featuring Light Yagami, but it is worth pointing out that Shueisha is only in charge of the manga side of things.
Furthermore, it would seem like the logical conclusion that this means the publishing company is preparing to release a new spinoff series. However, there is no information on what it's going to be like and if the original authors of the property, writer Tsugumi Ohba and artist Takeshi Obata, are going to be involved in some capacity.
The premise of Death Note
Light Yagami is Japan's brightest high school student and is meant for great things until he finds a magical notebook that allows him to murder a person by just writing their name on it. The notebook also allows Light to write the way they will die, and the default choice is a heart attack.
As the protagonist meets a Shinigami named Ryuk, the owner of the notebook who claims he dropped it on the human world because he was bored and wanted to see mayhem among humanity, Light decides to use this notebook to punish criminals and become Kira, "the god of the new world", as he describes it.
However, L Lawliet, the world's greatest detective, decides to take this case and a battle of wits and strategy begins.
