Overlord Season 5 reportedly confirmed for production

Overlord Season 5 has been green-lit for production, according to the latest tweet posted by the famous animanga news leaker, @SugoiLite on X (formerly Twitter), on Saturday, September 21, 2024. However, an official statement from the staff has yet to arrive.

Yet, considering the leaker has a decent record of revealing anime & manga-related news ahead of their official announcements, fans can be ecstatic about the Overlord Season 5's production decision. More details regarding Season 5 will be revealed once the anime's official staff decides to.

The production for Overlord Season 5 has reportedly been green-lit

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, @SugoiLite, a reliable anime & manga news leaker on X shared a tweet with fans to confirm the production decision for Overlord Season 5. However, the user didn't reveal the pertinent details concerning the sequel, such as the production studio, release date or window, cast & staff, etc.

As such, fans would have to wait for the official staff's confirmation. Notably, the leaker's past records lend the news its credibility. Previously, the user correctly predicted the production decisions of Ranma 1/2 remake, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint anime, and even Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4. As such, fans can be hopeful about Overlord Season 5.

On this note, the Overlord franchise recently released the third movie, Overlord the Movie: The Sacred Kingdom arc, on September 20, 2024, in Japanese theatres. The film covered Volumes 12 and 13 from Kugane Maruyama's light novel series, which deals with the Sacred Kingdom Arc.

Prior to this movie, the franchise released Overlord Season 4, which ran from July 2022 to September 2022 for 13 episodes, covering Volumes 10, 11, and 14, from the light novel series. Notably, Kugane Maruyama has published 16 light novel volumes so far and plans to release two more volumes.

As a result, Overlord Season 5 will likely continue the adaptation from Volume 15, and serve as either the penultimate or the final season of the franchise.

Fans might know that the fifth season has been under controversy for a while now, with Kugane Maruyama showing his displeasure about continuing the light novels due to fan translations of a side story, The Vampire Princess of the Lost Kingdom, which was posted on Reddit.

As such, since the fourth season and the third movie covered the light novels up to 14 volumes, fans wondered whether the franchise could do a Season 5 with only two volumes at hand. However, the author later tweeted to confirm that the light novels would have two more volumes, i.e., Volumes 17 and 18.

Even though those two volumes haven't been released yet, the confirmation gives Season 5 the necessary source material. Now, it remains to be seen when the franchise's staff officially announces the sequel's production.
